The Swampscott boys? basketball team clawed its way back to the .500 mark on Thursday as Nick Scibelli?s 15 points led three players in double figures as the Big Blue won, 67-44, over Lynn Tech at the T. O?Connor Field House in Lynn.
?We moved the ball really well,” Swampscott coach Dave Born said. “Everyone contributed, which is something that we had talked about going into the game.”
The Big Blue (5-5) did most of its damage in the first and third quarters where they outscored Tech (0-11), 33-14, to build up a big lead. Dujour Dunkley had 11 points for Swampscott, while Travis Thurman added 10.
The Tigers were led by a game-high 20 points from Michael Anaya. Jahvon Van was next for Tech with six points.
?We went into the half with some momentum and then the third quarter just killed us,” Tech coach Dave Leary said. “We are having a tough time coming out with some energy to start the second half of games.”
Everett 72, Lynn Classical 61
The Rams (4-7) stayed right with one of the most athletically talented teams in Division 1 until the fourth quarter. That?s where the Crimson Tide outscored Classical, 19-10, to pull away to victory.
?We kind of ran out of gas,” Classical coach Tom Grassa said. “We had a good team effort but Everett is very athletic and deep.”
Classical got 16 points from Eli McConney while C.J. Lights added 15 and Peter Mafo finished with 12. Everett?s Jordan McAfee led all scorers with 20 points while Gary Clark added 16 for the Tide.
GIRLS? BASKETBALL
Everett 53, Lynn Classical 39
The Rams dropped their record to 4-6 with the loss. Classical trailed the entire game and was outplayed for the most part. After the game, Rams? head coach Tom Sawyer gave credit where it was due.
?(Everett) did everything right,” he said. “They hit shots from the field and especially at the free-throw line. They were the better team.”
Junior guard Chenysse Hill led the Rams in scoring with 10 points. Freshman forward Paris Wilkey dropped eight points and senior guard Jaida Santos had seven.
Triton 42, Lynn Tech 5
The Tigers ran into a buzzsaw Thursday against a powerful Triton team. The loss drops Tech to 1-10 on the season. Although the game was out of hand by the second half, the Tigers were able to hold Triton to just 13 points over the final 22 minutes, which gives Tigers? head coach Kaitlyn Wechsler something positive to take out of the loss.?(Triton is) definitely the best team we?ve played all year,” Wechsler said. “I thought we showed a lot of fight in the second half and I?m proud of how the defense stepped up.”
