Schwartz named JCC camp directorMark Schwartz will be running the Jewish Community Center’s Summer on the Hill camp for toddlers to teenagers located at the center’s Marblehead campus.A Salem resident who is originally from Swampscott, Schwartz teaches history at Marshall Middle School in Lynn and has taught at Swampscott High School. He will oversee the Summer on the Hill’s 11-acre’s worth of swimming pools, tennis courts, gymnasium and studios.”I’m looking forward to giving each camper the safest, most fun, most rewarding and most memorable summer they’ve ever had,” Schwartz said.Saugus knitters tally up their totalsThe Knit and Crochet group meeting every Tuesday at the Saugus Senior Center had a productive 2014, according to the Saugus Council on Aging newsletter, with 54 group members helping to knit 1,063 hats, 373 slippers, 52 gators and 18 afghans – as well as 174 “cool ties” – for men and women in the military. The group also crocheted or knitted 280 baby hats.Saugus resident pumps up Revere studentsLocal fitness expert and Saugus resident Dante Bruzzese spoke to students at the Garfield Middle School in Revere on Friday. Bruzzese gave the students information on how to start healthy eating habits and how they can avoid junk food. Bruzzese, an international business major at Quinnipiac University, has turned a lifelong love of fitness into his passion. He recently competed in the National Physique Committee’s New England regionals.
