School Roundup: Another Cape Ann League title for Lynnfield-North Reading wrestlers

January 19, 2015 by Matthew Roy

The Lynnfield-North Reading wrestling team headed traveled to Melrose on Saturday for a quad meet that had major implications for them and Triton. The winner of that match would claim the Cape Ann League title.
The match didn?t start out well for the Lynnfield-North Reading as Triton won two of the three opening matches to take the lead. But it didn?t last as the defending CAL champions rallied to win nine matches in all to take a 49-25 win — and at worst a share of the league title.
Lynnfield-North Reading also bested Melrose (42-28) and Southwick (66-9) to make it a perfect day in the dual meets.
Long-time L-NR coach Craig Stone was especially proud of two of his wrestlers ? Vitaly Andrushyshyn and Max Whyman ? as their performances helped swing the momentum against Triton.
Andrushyshyn defeated Alec Moffat, a returning sectional place finisher from last season, while Whyman defeated Jared Durkin on points.
?Those matches were pivotal,” Stone said. “If they don?t go our way, it might have been a different story.”
Lynnfield-North Reading had four wrestlers go perfect on the day: Will Glover at 106 pounds, Jake Mullin-Bernstein (132), Dom Monzione (145) and Brandon Troisi (285).
Joe Morse (106), Max Whyman (126), Lucas Pascucci (138), Austin Bradley (182), Andrusyshyn and Nick Wilkinson (220) all won two matches.
