Welcome to the world, two new NewhallsSt. Mary’s athletic director and girls basketball coach Jeff Newhall and his wife, Christine (Kostan), had two reasons to celebrate Monday as Christine gave birth to twins.Andrew Thomas and Eva Kathleen Newhall were born at Beverly Hospital Monday morning at 8:55. Andrew checked in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces, while Eva was 1 ounce lighter. They join big brother Alex, who is 2. Proud grandfathers are Tom Newhall and Nick Kostan, retired Lynn superintendent of schools.No word yet on whether Jeff and Christine will look to complete the starting five.A golden anniversary plus two for Lynn coupleIf you see Phil and Bernice Brooks this week, you might want to consider giving them a deck of cards – with each one signifying a year of their marriage.Phil and Bernice celebrated their 52nd anniversary Monday. The popular Lynn couple are the proud new owners of a Toyota RAV4 – which, depending on how you look at it, they bought for themselves or Phil bought for Bernice as an anniversary gift.Phil is a retired engineer who worked for the state. Bernice worked for the city in the mayor’s office and at the DPW in an administrative role. She now works for a medical practice at Union Hospital. Founded in 1960, Luso offers a full range of financial products and services.Lynners head to Martin Luther King Day MarchA group of 10 Lynn residents traveled to Boston together Monday to take part in the Martin Luther King Day march.”We marched to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement, and to bring attention to the need to continue the fight against racism and for social justice,” said Isaac Simon Hodes of Lynn United for Change. “The killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner are just two recent reminders of the need for change around the country and right here in Massachusetts.”Congratulations to the Zion Baptist Church children’s choirThe Lynn choir boarded a bus last Friday morning for a trip into Boston where church member Barbara Moutsoulas said they sang at the State House. She said the 30 children, ages 9 to 13 years old, performed songs in the state capitol’s Flag Room, including “We Believe In Freedom.” Moutsoulas said the invitation to sing was extended by a State House employee who is a friend of a Zion congregation member.”We have a standing invitation to return,” Moutsoulas said.
