Lynn City Council sponsors clothing drive

LYNN – The City Council is hosting a clothing drive through a partnership with Solutions At Work, an organization whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.Solutions at Work provides individuals and families with opportunities to strengthen their self-confidence, professional skills and financial stability. It seeks to ensure that homeless and low-income people have the resources, opportunities and partners needed to achieve self-sufficiency. Solutions at Work annually serves approximately 6,000 people living in poverty.As part of the Solutions At Work program “Solutions Wear,” the City Council is collecting interview-appropriate clothing and accessories for men and women who are enrolled in job-training programs. Acceptable clothing donations include suits, shirts, jackets, slacks, shoes, skirts, dresses, new dress socks, belts, ties and any other lightly worn professional attire.”This program is a great way for us to help those in need pursue jobs that could turn their lives around,” said Councilor at large Buzzy Barton. “The Lynn community has shown time and time again that we are willing to lend a helping hand, and I am confident that this drive will be successful.””Solutions At Work empowers people to feel good about themselves and helps them take on the challenge of finding employment,” said Councilor at large Hong Net. “I am happy that we have the opportunity be a part of this important effort.”Anyone wishing to donate clothing can drop it off at City Hall in the City Council office, Room 408, during regular City Hall hours (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; Tuesday, 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). If interested in a tax deduction, please bring a list of your clothing items and your name and address. The clothing drive will run through Feb. 14.
