January 22, 2015 by Mike Alongi

The Lynn Classical girls? had everything working on Wednesday night, cruising to a 53-31 win over Malden. The Rams bolted out of the gates to an 18-1 first-quarter lead and 33-5 at halftime against the Golden Tornadoes.
?We played really good defense in the first half,” said Classical (5-8) coach Tom Sawyer. “That allowed us to open up a pretty good lead.”
The Rams also had a balanced scoring attack, led by 14 points from guard Chenysse Hill. Shannon Magner added 12 points while Jaida Santos finished with nine.
?That was probably as balanced scoring as we?ve been all season,” Sawyer said.
Triton 53, Lynn Tech 18
The Tigers faced off with Triton for the second time in six days on Wednesday, and the result wasn?t much different. Tech drops to 1-13 on the season after the loss. Jamila Constantine was the leading scorer for the Tigers with four points. Aexia Martinez and Lila Nieves each chipped in three points.
?Despite the loss, it was a good team effort against a team that was better than us,” said Tigers? coach Kaitlyn Wechsler.
Saugus at Somerville was postponed until Monday at 7 p.m.
BOYS? BASKETBALL

The Rams had three players in double figures as they jumped all over a short-handed Malden team to improve to .500 for the year (7-7). C.J. Lights, Peter Mafo and Phil Rogers each recorded 16 points for Classical.
The Rams were all over Malden early, jumping out to a commanding 25-9 lead after the first quarter.
?Even though they were shorthanded tonight, I think we played a great game all-around,” said Rams? coach Tom Grassa.
Calvin Johnson and Jakeel Brown also had nice games for the Rams, finishing with six points and four points, respectively.
St. John?s 72, Xaverian 54
After trailing by one point at the half, St. John?s (7-3) rallied behind some great defense and some timely shooting from Kareem Davis and pulled out a solid 18-point victory on the road at Xaverian.
?We came out slow and had a bunch of guys in foul trouble early,” said Eagles? coach John Dullea. “But we settled down in the second half and Kareem hit some big shots for us.”
Davis finished with 26 points to lead all scorers. Tyson Johnson had 14 points and Ben Judson finished with 10.Everett at Saugus was postponed. No makeup date has been set yet.
