Track Roundup: Gloucester boys beat Marblehead to win NEC North title

Though the score may not show it, the Marblehead boys? track team was locked in a close battle Thursday night in Gloucester, with the meet coming down to the final two events. However, the Magicians just couldn?t pull out a win, falling, 49-39, for its first loss of the season.
The win clinched the Northeastern Conference North Division title for the Fishermen.
?It was really close going into the last two,” said Magician?s coach Brian Crowley. “My guys worked hard tonight and I?m proud of them.”
Marblehead had three first-place finishers. Jaason Lopez won the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.5 seconds. In the one-mile run, AJ Ernst took first with a time of 4:28.3. And Mitch Norcross placed first in the high jump, jumping a height of 6 feet even.
Next up for both teams is the Northeastern Conference meet next week.
Peabody 62, Revere 24
The Tanners rolled to an easy victory over Revere, only losing two events. Marcus Vieira took first in the shot put with a 50-3. Christian Cedullo won the 50-yard hurdles in 6.6 seconds and Doug Santos won the regular 50-yard dash in 5.7. Rocco Cimino finished first in the 300-meter dash with a 39.6, while Michael Ricci won the 600-meter in 1:31.9. In the longer distances, Garrett Braz won the one-mile (5:28) and Alexander Marcus won the two-mile in 11:36.8.
The Patriots had three winners on the night. Nelson Cevallos won the high jump with a height of 5-8, Richie Damiano won the 1000-meter with a time of 2:51.9 and the Revere team won the 4×440 relay.
Beverly 71, Lynn Classical 15
The Beverly boys had no trouble with the Rams, winning all but one event. Sam Abate won the high jump with a 5-6 and Matt Madden won the shot put with a 42-2 ?. Madden also won the 50-yard dash in 5.7 seconds.
In the middle distances, Kai Marcos placed first in the 300-meter (39.7 seconds), Brian McPherson finished first in the 600-meter (1:34) and Campbell Wood won the 1000-meter (2:48.6). Beverly also won both long-distance races, with Bryan Flaherty taking the one-mile in 5:12.5 and Zach Bauer taking the two-mile in 11:22.
The lone winner for the Rams was Robert Williams, who won the 50-yard hurdles with a time of 7.9 seconds.
GIRLS? TRACK
Marblehead 50, Gloucester 36
The Magicians remained undefeated at 6-0. In addition, they captured the NEC/Small title — their third title in four years.
The Magicians had four winners Thursday. Colyn McGrath placed first in the 55-meter hurdles with in 8.6 seconds, Olivia Eddy the 300-meter (45.8), Holly Rowe the 1000-meter (3:22.2) and Faith Ferrucci the shot put (30-?).
Peabody 72, Revere 14
The Tanners (5-1, 4-1 NEC North) won every individual event. Taking wins for Peabody were Ali Demeo in the high jump (4-6); Brianna McDonald, shot put (32-1 ?); Sabrina D?Angelo, 50-yard hurdles (8.4); Dayna Vadala, 50-yard dash (6.6); Cynthia Aroke, 300-meters (45.6); Macayla Lachance, 600-meters (1:53.9); Valerie Folan, 1,000-meters (3:36.5); Nicole Ruggiero, mile (6:06.2) and Ashley Ferragamo, 2-mile (13:46.0).
Beverly 61.5, Classical 24.5
The Panthers (6-0) clinched the NEC/Large crown with the victory. Taking wins for Beverly was Natalie Coughlin, high jump (4-10); Gracie Sparkman, shot put (32-0); Julianna Devitt, 50-yard hurdles (7.7); Nora Monahan, 600-meters (1:46.3); Julianna Wesley, 1,000-meters (3:12.4); Lexi Sityak, mile (5:39.7) and Abby Walsh, 2-mile (12:26.4).The Rams (3-3) had wins from Agnes Bangura in the 50-yard dash (6.4) and Jenn Gaudet in the 300-meters (46.7).
