Half a season’s worth of hard work pay off in a big way for Lynn Tech on Friday in the form of a 61-39 victory over visiting Northeast for the Tigers? first win of the season.
Junior guard Michael Anaya scored a game-high 25 points for the Tigers. Sophomore guard Aquemini Gaston had 10 points and six of the Tigers? 14 team assists.
?Michael had his best game of the season individually while our team, as a whole, moved the ball better than we had all season,” said Tech (1-12) coach Dave Leary.
?It felt great to see the kids rewarded for all the hard work they’ve turned in.”
Justin Lewis, a junior forward, pulled down 14 rebounds for the Tigers, who jumped out to a seven-point first-quarter lead before entering halftime ahead, 29-17.
?Our pressure on the defensive end of the floor really paid off,” Leary said. “We haven’t played with many leads this season so to open up some breathing room early was a huge momentum boost.”
Arlin Reynoso scored nine points for the Tigers who also got seven points from junior Brian Umeh.
St. Mary’s 65, Cardinal Spellman 48
Dennis Bailer scored a game-high 24 points for the Spartans, who now turn their focus to Monday evening’s Catholic Central League showdown against Arlington Catholic. Jonny Mercado (14 points, seven assists) and Luc Zikianda (nine points, eight rebounds, four blocks) added strong performances for St. Mary’s (9-4) who got seven points off the bench from Tyler Devine.
Lynn English 91, Gloucester 58
The Bulldogs improved to 12-1 behind double-digit scoring performances from Anthony Silfa (24), Stevie Collins (19), Venantius Phillip (11) and Jordan Lark (10). English led, 64-26, at halftime after exploding for 35 points in the second quarter.
Beverly 60, Marblehead 56 (OT)
Extra time was needed for the Panthers who outscored the host Magicians, 16-12, in the overtime period to secure the victory. Sam Traicoff scored 16 points to lead Beverly (4-7), which received double-digit scoring outputs from Kyle Coughlin (14) and Ryan Garrity (10).
Marblehead (5-7) was led by Spencer Craig, who scored a game-high 21 points, while Angel Perez added 10.
Swampscott 67, Revere 59
Dajour Dunkley (eight rebounds, five assists) poured in 22 points for the Big Blue, who also received stellar production from Travis Thurman (14 points, seven rebounds, four assists). Swampscott (6-7) got six points and seven rebounds from Brandon Byrne.
Tommy Chea scored 24 points to pace the Patriots, who got 14 points from Janard Jones in the loss.
Danvers 65, Peabody 51
The Falcons improved to a perfect 11-0 behind a monster night from Devan Harris who scored a game-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds. Peter Merry (13 points, six rebounds, three blocks) and Vinny Clifford (nine points) stood out for Danvers while Matt Correale (20 points) led the way for the Tanners. Mike Raymond added 11 points for Peabody (6-6).
St. John?s Prep 80, BC High 73A game-high 29 points from Kareem Davis proved essential for the Eagles (8-3), who also got 17 points from Harry O’Neil. With time dwindling in the final period, Alec Buresh came up with two steals and a crucial three-pointer to help secure the win.
