Sam Callahan has been a one-woman wrecking crew of late for the St. Mary?s girls? hockey team. After scoring twice in a win over Lynn/Winthrop/Saugus on Saturday, the junior went one goal better on Thursday against Fontbonne, finishing with a hat trick in a 4-0 win over the Ducks.
?Sam has been playing really well for us,” St. Mary?s coach Frank Pagliuca said. “She?s been finishing chances and playing well in all three zones.”
Callahan now has a team-leading 13 goals and 19 points in 14 games this season.
The game was scoreless until late in the second period when St. Mary?s scored twice in 40 seconds to take the lead.
First, it was defenseman Vanessa VanBuskirk finishing off a Sophia Post feed at 11:11 to make it 1-0. On the next shift, Callahan scored unassisted to increase the margin, 2-0.
Callahan struck again just 3:22 into the third, assisted by Adara Nazarian and Sarah Ryan, before she capped her spectacular day off a Nazarian feed later in the period.
?It was nice, for the first time all year, to put back-to-back games together against a quality opponent,” Pagliuca said.
