It was a close one for the Pioneers at home Friday night, but they were able to come away with a hard-fought 48-42, victory against Manchester-Essex. The stars of the game for Lynnfield (8-6) were Marie Norwood and Emma Mancini.
Norwood scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Mancini scored 13 and added 10 rebounds.
But perhaps the biggest play of the night came from freshman Julianna Passetempo, who hit a huge jumpshot late in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory for Lynnfield.
?We really got a great effort from everybody tonight,” said Lynnfield coach Bob Melillo. “And we got a good win against a good team.”
Notre Dame 67, Lynn Tech 35
The Tigers? tough season continued on Friday after a big loss at home to Notre Dame. The loss drops Tech to 2-12. Tech hadn?t played a game in a full week, and a tough game was to be expected against a solid team like Notre Dame.
But Tigers? coach Kaitlyn Wechsler remained positive after the game.
?I was proud of how the girls played considering they haven?t played since last Friday,” she said. “We started rough but they really stepped it up in the fourth quarter, which was nice.”
That fourth quarter saw Tech score 16 points, just three fewer than the other three quarters combined.
Jamila Constantine led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points. Lila Nieves added eight points and Annmarie Teixeira scored six.
Sarah Morrison had a huge day for the visiting Lancers, dropping an impressive 34 points in the win.
Danvers 49, Saugus 27
The Sachems dropped to 1-13 on the season with a 22-point home loss to Danvers (4-9) Friday night. After only giving up 15 points in the first half, the Saugus defense faltered in the second half and gave up a costly 34 points.
It was a true team offensive effort for both sides in this one. Seven Sachems registered points in this one, with no players scoring more than six points.
?We did a great job of rebounding in the first half to help keep it close,” said Saugus coach Mark Schruender. “But in the end we just didn?t make shots tonight.”
For Danvers, 10 players scored and the high scorer, Siovhan Moriarty, had 11 points.
Falcons? head coach Patrick Veilleux was proud of his team after the game.
?We played a pretty ugly first half on both sides,” he said. “But we came out with a solid second half and notched a much-needed win for the Falcon girls tonight.”
Salem 64, Lynn English 34
Salem jumped all over Lynn English Friday night, rolling to a 30-point victory over the Bulldogs. Senior captain Jackie Panneton was the leader for the Witches, scoring 23 points on 10 field goals.
English (2-11) coach Rachael Bradley gave credit where it was due after the game.
?Salem played a great game. You can?t take anything away from them,” she said. “But we didn?t play well at all.”
Samantha Holey and Waleska Muriel led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points each. But Muriel struggled a bit against a bigger opponent in Panneton, and Panneton got the better of her this time.
Revere 68, Peabody 41
The Patriots had no trouble with the Tanners on Friday, coasting to an easy victory behind Tiphani Harris and Adanna Hector. Revere is now 11-1.
After three snow days in a row, the Patriots were itching to get back out on the court. While most teams suffered from some serious rust after the long layoff, Revere had no trouble getting right back into the swing. Harris dropped 15 points for the Patriots, while Hector added 13 points and Meaghan Gotham scored 10.
Revere coach Diana DeCristoforo knows she has a solid group.
?Everyone on the team knows that they are a threat,” she said. “And they all play.”
Beverly 46, Lynn Classical 38 (OT)
The Rams held an 11-point lead over Beverly heading into the fourth quarter and they had yet to give up double-digit points in any of the first three. But they fell apart in the fourth quarter and gave up 16 points to let the Panthers right back in. Beverly tied the score and then went on to outscore Classical, 11
