The Bishop Fenwick and St. Mary?s swim teams took to the pool at Lynn Tech on Saturday morning for the Catholic Central League Championships, placing second and fourth respectively among the field of eight.
In their runner-up performance, the Crusaders accumulated 374.5 point, thanks in large part to first-place finishes from all three relay squads.
Connor Christuk, Rowan Emerson, Emily Ambeliotis and Sarah Long combined for a 1:58.10 in the 200-yard medley before Emerson teamed with David Connolly and co-captains Nicole DiMeglio and Carson Christuk to win the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.50).
Ambeliotis, Long and the Christuk brothers swam a 3:48.92 to win the 400-yard freestyle.
In individual action, Carson Christuk prevailed in the 100-yard butterfly (53:70) and 100-yard freestyle (49.90),breaking the Tech pool and CCL meet records.
Connor Christuk took first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.52) and 500-yard freestyle (5:15.10) while Ambeliotis (2:29.34) and Emerson (1:10.57) added second-place finishes in the 200-yard medley and 100-yard backstroke, respectively.
St. Mary?s totaled 227 points which coach Michele Brewster believes could be a turning point in its season.
?(This) was a big step forward for our team after winning only three league meets this season,” she said. “This was our highest finish in my eight years as coach. I am extremely proud of the team?s efforts and their times really speak for themselves.”
Erik Whitcomb proved a vital piece in the Spartans? success, with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (25.50) as well as a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle (59.52), a personal best.
Eve Smith added a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.76) in addition to placing fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.12).
Gabby Marchese finished seventh in the 100-yard butterfly with an impressive 1:12.23 in addition to teaming with Whitcomb, Smith and Dami Rodrigues to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season?s best 1:52.47.
Austin Prep won the meet with a top-score of 479 points.

Lynnfield was crowned as champion for the third consecutive season, accumulating 186.5 points to easily outpace the rest of the 12-team field.
The Pioneers had two champions among their six finalists, with Dominic Monzione at 145 pounds and Brandon Troisi (285). Joe Morse (113), Max Whyman (126), Jake Mullin-Bernstein (132) and Zack Monzione (160) added runner-up finishes.
Danvers (121 points) finished second, behind championship performances from Chris Behan and Colby Holland as well as a second-place showing from Skylar Falite.
With only six competitors Saugus turned in an impressive showing, crowning two champions and a runner-up. Mike Titus (106) and Luke Surette (220) both finished 4-0 on the day while Nick Vokey (195) fell in the title match to finish 3-1.
Swampscott/Marblehead got a strong showing from Stephen Hopkins (120), who won his second and third matches before being pinned in the consolation match of the finals. The Magicians totaled 18 points on the day.
Prep Sweeps at Pathfinder Duals
St. John?s Prep scored a quartet of decisive victories over Dean Tech (69-0), Chicopee Comprehensive (58-13), Hampden Charter (72-3) and Pathfinder Tech (81-1), improving to a perfect 33-0 for the season.
The Eagles got three wins apiece from Zach Alexander (120), John Grady (132), Jack Anderson (145), David Yepez (170) and Frank Soucy (195) while Ian Butterbrodt picked up the 100thvictory of his career with a pin against Dean Tech.
