St. Mary’s came out firing on Tuesday night as they put away Lowell Catholic, 56-37. The Spartans led by just one point entering the second quarter, but went on to outscore Lowell Catholic 45-25 the rest of the way.
Marnelle Garraud led the Spartans with 16 points while Kayla Carter scored 11 points and Olivia Nazaire added nine. Temi Falayi had a huge game for St. Mary?s, scoring eight points with 14 rebounds, three steals and six blocked shots.
The Spartans are now 13-3 this season, and getting ready for tournament season. Head coach Jeff Newhall knows that his team needs to get a little better before it is ready to go far in the tournament.
?I don?t want to sound mean, but I know we need to get better,” Newhall said. “We?re still struggling to put together a complete game, and we need to work on that.”
Bishop Fenwick 43, Archbishop Williams 41
Junior captain Colleen Corcoran led the way for Bishop Fenwick (10-5). She scored nine points, including a buzzer-beater in the fourth quarter to lift the Crusaders to victory over a very talented Archbishop Williams team.
Sophomore Samantha Mancinelli led the Crusaders with 10 points. Mikayla Porcaro added eight points and senior Lexie Rose scored six.
?It was such a great game,” Fenwick coach Adam DeBaggis said. “We just hung around for the whole game and kept it close, then hit some huge shots late to give us the win.”
With the win, Fenwick clinched a berth in the tournament.
Peabody 57, Lynn English 41
The Bulldogs fell to 2-12 with their loss to Peabody Tuesday night. The Tanners were able to jump all over English early on and the Bulldogs just couldn?t make the comeback.
English coach Rachael Bradley remained positive after the game.
?We played some really good defense and closed the lead, but in the end we just didn?t make enough shots,” she said. “But we?re getting better every day.”
Samantha Holey led the Bulldogs with 14 points. But it was Dorothy Ezemba who made her mark on this game. Ezemba scored eight points, pulled down 13 rebounds and came up with six steals. Another big performer in this game was Regina Ngaleu, who came off the bench in place of Taylor Sullivan to score 11 points.
Melissa Gray was the leading scorer for the Tanners with 23 points, while Courtney Bua added nine points and Marina Demild had four.
Lynnfield 51, Georgetown 48
Emma Mancini led the way for the Pioneers (9-6) with a big double-double in Lynnfield?s win at Georgetown. Mancini scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while Toni DiCesare dropped 16.?It was a good win on the road for us,” Lynnfield head coach Bob Melillo said. “They hit some shots down the road to make it close, but we were able to hold them off.”
