The Marblehead boys? hockey team scored early and often on their way to a 5-0 win over the Lynn Jets Wednesday night at Connery Rink, led by two goals from Tim Kalinowski.
?The better team won,” Jets coach Joe Conlon said.
The tone for the evening was set on the game?s opening shift as Kalinowski scored just 15 seconds in, assisted by Cam McDonald and Braden Haley. Five minutes later, Kalinowski struck again off another assist from McDonald to make it 2-0.
The Headers (9-5-1) kept right on plugging in the second period.
First, it was an unassisted goal by Charlie Sweeney to make it 3-0 Marblehead. James McCarthy then finished of a Colin Daly pass at 10:18 for a 4-0 lead before Haley netted an unassisted goal 91 seconds later to cap the night?s scoring.
Mark Scribner stopped all 11 shots he faced to get the shutout in net.
?We played very well in the first two periods,” Marblehead coach Bob Jackson said. “We cycled the puck better than we have been and our first line (Kalinowski, Haley, McDonald) played well.”
St. Mary?s 7, St. Peter Marian 2
The Spartans (8-6-3) moved within two points of clinching a state tournament berth thanks to the convincing win. Freshman defenseman Max McKay had a goal and three assists to lead the St. Mary?s offense.
?We played very well,” St. Mary?s coach Mark Lee said. “I was very happy with the effort we had.”
Jon Powers had a goal and two assist with Shawn MacBurnie adding a goal and an assist. Ryan Turenne, Eric Pedro, Brady McLaughlin and Dante Maribito also scored for the Spartans.
Swampscott 6, Saugus 2
The Big Blue (6-9-0) put up two goals in each period and got 24 stops from goalie Trent Gallagher to cruise to the win over the Sachems (3-11-0).
?It was a great team win,” Swampscott coach Gino Faia said. “We got solid play from the goalie on out. We kept things simple and worked our forecheck really well.”
Anthony Springthorpe had a pair of first-period goals and Ryan Donnelly had two in the second for Swampscott. Steve Dandreo and Andrew Dove (goal, assist) added third-period tallies.
Louis Olivieri had three assists for Swampscott. The Sachems had a goal and an assist from Nik Straticos and a goal from Chris Sanderson.
Peabody 8, Revere 1
Reed Foster had two goals and an assist to lead Peabody. Chris Gillen also had a pair of goals while Anthony Hartnett had a goal and an assist.
Cam Smullen and Ryan Carney had two assists apiece with Aaron Dollin, J.T. Eason and Steve Porfido also scoring. Porfido?s goal was the first of his varsity career.
Peabody (7-7-1) outshot the Patriots, 55-9, in the game. Revere took an early 1-0 on Rich Polignone?s goal before the Tanners hit their stride.
Lynnfield 4, Masconomet 1
The Pioneers (5-6-3) spotted Masco a 1-0 lead on a Garrett LaFata goal but responded to score the game?s last four goals, upsetting the Cape Ann League leaders.
Cooper Marengi had a goal and an assist for Lynnfield, which also had goals by Derek Crampe, Johnny Percoskie and Tyler Murphy.
Beverly 5, Gloucester 2
The defending Division 2 state champions got a win they desperately needed thanks to a hat trick and an assist from Brendan Boyle. Ted Leathersich had a goal and an assist with Hunter Spencer also netting one for Beverly (5-9-0).
The Panthers got two assists each from Clinton Cabral and Jesse McLaughlin. Gloucester (8-5-2) had goals by Eddie Mahoney and Jared Favazza.
Danvers 3, Salem 0
The Falcons (10-5-2) dominated throughout, finishing with a 45-10 shots-on-goal advantage. Rob Tibbetts and Curtis Cunningham had second period goals for Danvers before T.J. Deinstadt added another early in the third period.
Goalie Alex Taylor got the shutout for Danvers while Nick Holt had 42 stops for the Witches (8-5-2).
