The Lynn Tech boys? basketball team turned to defense, and a brilliant night from Michael Anaya, to rally from behind to defeat Whittier Tech, 52-50, on Thursday night at the T. O?Connor Field House.
Anaya led all scorers with 22 points as the Tigers (2-14) battled back from a first-quarter deficit to beat the Wildcats. Tech led, 25-23, at halftime, and by a single point with under a minute in the game when sophomore guard Dante Robinson canned a three-pointer to put the Tigers up by four.
?It was a solid defensive effort,” Tech coach Dave Leary said. “And we got some huge shots down the stretch from Anaya also.”
Justin Lewis had seven points with Aquemini Gaston and Jose Morel-Rodrigues adding six each.
GIRLS? BASKETBALL
Revere 45, Classical 30
The Patriots (12-2) kept their spot atop the Northeastern Conference/North standings thanks to a dominant second half in which they outscored Classical, 29-13.
Ally Hinojosa had a game-high 12 points for Revere. The Patriots also got 11 from Maritza Scott. Classical (9-10) received 11 points from Chenysse Hill to lead its offense.
?We got some good looks at shots in the second half and we just couldn?t hit them,” Classical coach Tom Sawyer said.
Danvers 42, Ipswich 27
The Falcons (6-10) kept hopes of playing in the state tournament alive with the victory. Devan Walsh had 14 points to lead the Danvers offense but it was on defense where the Falcons shined, pulling down 34 rebounds and holding Ipswich?s Jenna Gagnon to just nine points.Danvers must win its final four games to make the playoffs.
