LYNN – With the most recent parking ban having been lifted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the City has implemented one-sided parking on city streets, effective immediately, citing the record amount of snowfall this winter. The rule, which pertains only to streets that offer parking on both sides, will be going into effect to facilitate the convenience of travel for the general public, and for the emergency access of all public-safety vehicles. According to the relevant Lynn ordinance, all streets that do not prohibit parking for any reason will have to adhere to the new winter parking guidelines. Parking will be allowed on the even sides of the street only. On streets where parking is currently allowed on the odd side only, and prohibited by signage on the even side, parking will continue to be permitted on the odd side of the street. As is always the case, cars parked in such a way as to impede the flow of traffic on any street will be subject to ticketing and towing.”Due to the unprecedented frequency and amount of snowfall we have had this winter, I concluded that this measure is necessary for the safety of all of our residents,” said Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we continue to work to widen and clear our streets.”Residents are encouraged to plan ahead in order to secure parking spots while the measure is in effect. The one-sided parking rule will be in effect for as long as public safety requires, but must be lifted by March 15 in accordance with the City’s snow ordinance.
