Peabody High?s boys? track team had an impressive showing at the MIAA Division 1 Track and Field Championships, held on Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The Tanners used a complete team effort to rack up 33 points, good for a third-place finish among the field of 31 teams. St. John?s Prep (29 points) featured a group of strong showings, along the way to placing sixth. The top four athletes in each event earned their spot at the All-State Meet on Feb. 21 also at the Lewis center.
?We were extremely happy with the results today,” said Peabody coach Fernando Braz, who lauded his staff for reading the team. “My coaches have done a great job helping the kids prepare these past few weeks when the weather permitted us to practice.”
Christian Cedullo finished third in the 55-meter hurdles where he set a school record in 7.76 seconds, ahead of the Prep?s Josh Sullivan (8.01) and Aidan Reilly (8.07) who placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
Marcelo Rocha tacked on a second-place finish in the two-mile race with a 9:30.09, for the Tanners, while teammate Riley Dowd placed sixth in the mile (4:29.91).
In the 4×800 relay, Peabody?s Ben Manoogian, Connor Wolff, Jason Karakaedos and Michael Ricci recorded a 8:12.72, good for fourth-place finish.
Joe Luongo provided the day?s top highlight for the Prep, with a victory in the 600-meter run, where his 1:20.34 narrowly missed breaking his own meet record of 1:20.05, set last season.
Tom Chiapinni added a runner-up finish in the shotput with a throw of 51-feet, 9-inches for the Eagles, just ahead of Tanners? teammates Marcus Vieira (50-8 ?) and Anthony Christo (48-2 ?).
Josh Raposa placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run with a 2:38.04, for the Eagles whose 4×400 relay squad of Mike Mejias, Evan MacMullin, Raposa and Luongo placed third with a 3:30.56.
In girls? action, Peabody got a pair of 10th-place performances from Lauren Barrett (5:32.20) and Anna Church (30-10 ?) in the mile and shotput, respectively.

Lynnfield 40, Danvers 36The Pioneers (21-4) ended their dual meet season with wins from Adam Rossetti at 126 pounds, Max Whyman (132), Dominic Monzione (145), Zack Monzione (160), Victor Bounsiglio (170), Austin Bradley (182), Vitalyi Andrusyshyn (195) and Brandon Troisi (285).
