English’s Silfa scores 1,000th point in win over Revere

On a night where the Lynn English boys basketball team celebrated its six seniors, it was a junior who stole the show in a 91-73 victory over Revere.
Anthony Silfa drilled a three-pointer off an inbound pass early in the third quarter to reach the 1,000-point milestone before finishing up with a team-high 22 points.
?(Silfa) has been an outstanding addition to this team and an absolute pleasure to coach… He only wants to please,” said Bulldogs coach Mike Carr, who also lauded his six seniors, including Johnny Hilaire (16 points) and Erick Rosario (11) and Stevie Collins (7).
?The three of them have been at the core of this team?s successes the past four years. They, along with Joe Calnan, Jeam Castillo and Jordon Lark have helped create the special kind of family atmosphere that I always hope for as a coach.”
English (16-2) led comfortably, 45-31, at halftime on the strength of 12 first-quarter points from Silfa, who played for the Bulldogs as a freshman before transferring to St. Mary?s for the next two seasons.
Liocar Terrero added nine points for the Bulldogs, who also got solid scoring contributions from Lark (8) and Castillo (7) as well.
For the Patriots, Tommy Chea scored a game-high 26 points to go along with double-digit nights from Janard Jones (18), Gerald Jean-Charles (11) and Marvin Urdaneta (10).
Lawrence 62, St. Mary?s 60 (OT)
The most improbable of shots from three-quarters the length of the court, at the end of the fourth quarter, allowed the host Lancers to force an extra session, before escaping with a victory.
?They?re one of the best teams around and it took a miracle shot at the buzzer and an overtime to beat us,” said Spartans coach Dave Brown. “We played an excellent game tonight.”
Dennis Bailer (20 points) made consecutive free throws for St. Mary?s just prior to the shocking turn of events. Jonathan Mercado scored a game-high 24 points in the loss, which dropped the Spartans to 13-5 on the season.
Fenwick 65, Lynn Tech 45
The Crusaders celebrated senior night in style, with five players scoring in double figures, including Matt Murphy who finished with a game-high 15.
Ryan Veguilla (12) and J.P. Reiling (11) chipped in for Fenwick (2-14), along with Myles Connor (12 rebounds) and Matt Haley, who scored 10 points apiece.
Justin Lewis recorded a double-double for the Tigers (2-16) with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Michael Anaya had nine points.
Saugus 73, Gloucester 65
David Rowinsky (18 points) and Dan Cacciola combined for 34 points as the host Sachems improved to 7-11 on the season.
Kyle Autilio (15 points) and Evan DeCristoforo (13) had big nights for Saugus. Gloucester?s Drew Muniz had a game-high 22 points.
Danvers 53, Marblehead 47
21 points apiece from Devon Allen and Devan Harris were just enough to clip the host Magicians (9-8) who must win one of their final three games to qualify for the state tournament.
Spencer Craig (15 points), Cian Saunders (12), and Will Millett (eight) paced Marblehead.
Winthrop 39, Swampscott 36
The Big Blue dropped to 6-12 with a hard-fought loss to the visiting Vikings who got a game-high 16 points from Bobby Fisher as well as 12 from Jake Chiudina. Swampscott was paced by Joey Ragusa who finished with 11 points.
Beverly 70, Peabody 63Sam Traicoff (game-high 21 points) and Gavin Sparman combined for 40 points as the Panthers (9-9) held off the visiting Tanners. James Aaron (11) and Pat Gavin (10) also reached double-figures in the win. Matt Correale (18) and Matt D?Amato (15) led Peabody (10-10).
