The Magicians improved to 10-8 and qualified for the state tournament with a 50-38 win over Winthrop Friday night. Marblehead was coming off a tough loss to Danvers on Thursday night, and coach Mike Giardi was very aware of his team?s condition entering Friday?s game.

Beverly 72, Revere 64 (OT)
Beverly seemed dead in the water earlier this year. Eight games into the season, the Panthers stood at 1-7 with no real prospects of making the tournament. They were simply a young team, with their top six players graduating last year.
But that didn?t stop them from almost running the table down the stretch. They went 9-2 over their next 11 games to put their record at 10-9, and they clinched a tournament berth.
?All the credit to the kids,” Panthers? coach Scott Lewis said. “They kept fighting all year and never gave up, and now we?re in the tournament.”
Sam Traicoff led the way for Beverly with 20 points, while Gavin Sparkman had 13 and James Aaron added 10.
