Saugus? Ailyn Minaya is only a sophomore but she can now call herself an EMass champion in the shot put. On Tuesday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Minaya and Coyle and Cassidy?s Alissa Piatelli tied at 32 feet 9 ? inches but it was Minaya?s next best throw of 32-3 ? that was the tiebreaker.
Bishop Fenwick was the top-finishing local girls? team on Tuesday, placing 11thwith 14 points. Saugus was 14thwith 12.5 points and Lynnfield placed 21st.
Saugus? other points came from Gianna Filaretos, who tied for sixth in the high jump at 4-10.
Fenwick racked up most of its points in the shot put as Maddie Camelo was third (32-8 ?) and Emma Harrington took fifth (31-4). Sydney Packard was sixth in the 600-meter run in 1 minute, 40.46 seconds and Kate DelTorchio took eighth in the mile (5:45.37).
Lynnfield?s Tia Patterson continued her excellent senior season as she advanced to this weekend?s all-state competition with a fourth-place finish (11:38.51) in the two-mile race. Teammate Kate Michel placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run (3:03.06).
In the boys? competition, Saugus was the top area finisher in 13thplace with Fenwick taking 19th.
Saugus? top finish came from Alex Kotkowski, who took third in the 300-meter run (37.60). He also placed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.11).
The quartet of Kotkowski, Alex Schrippa, Guilherme Barbosa and Angelo Bellia finished fifth in the 4×200 meter relay (1:37.15).Fenwick?s Mitch Rivers was sixth in the 300 meters (37.94) before teaming with John Blanchard, Pat Walsh and Shawn Carlson to finish second in the 4×400 relay (3:39.40).
