February 19, 2015 by Matthew Roy

The old axiom most coaches spout at this time of the year is that you want to be playing your best entering the postseason. That certainly is the case for the Marblehead boys? hockey team right now.
Tim Kalinowski had a pair of goals and tournament MVP Mark Scribner had 16 saves to lead the Magicians to a 5-0 win over Pentucket in the Gulazian Division Final of the Newburyport Bank Classic Wednesday night at Graf Rink in Newburyport.
?I like the way that our lines are blending together now,” Marblehead coach Bob Jackson said. “Hopefully that continues for us.”
Since the calendar turned to January, the Magicians (14-5-1) have lost only twice and are riding a five-game win streak.
Marblehead gave Scribner all the offense he needed in the first period as Kalinowski fired home a Braden Haley pass at 7:20 for a 1-0 lead. Late in the first, it was Owen Picariello finishing off a Duncan Legget pass to make it 2-0 after one.
Neither team scored in the second as Marblehead failed to convert a 2-on-0 break and a penalty shot. But early in the third, Danny Gieniesczko made it 3-0.
Kalinowski netted his second goal with 8:18 left before Andrew McGurrin?s rebound tally closed out the scoring with 6:55 left.
Leggett and Braden Haley each had two assists in the game for Marblehead.Bedford 5, Lynn 0
The Jets (6-11-2) remained in a scoring funk as they dropped a third straight game. Matt Cole played well in goal for Lynn, which can clinch a share of second place in the Northeastern Conference/South and a tournament spot with a win over Salem on Friday.
?We?ve had a tough time lately creating a lot of offense,” Lynn coach Joe Conlon said. “We just have to keep working at it.”Springfield Cathedral 7, St. Mary?s 0
The Spartans (11-7-3) ran squarely into a brick wall against one of the favorites to win the upcoming Division 1A tournament in the semifinals of the Cathedral Hockey Classic in West Springfield.
?They are the cream of the crop,” St. Mary?s coach Mark Lee said. “We were a little undisciplined and they capitalized on that.”
Junior forward John Leonard was the major thorn in the Spartans side on Wednesday as he scored four goals to push his season total to 42 for the Panthers (19-0-2), who have outscored their opponents, 148-19, this season.Swampscott 5, Lowell 2
The Big Blue (9-11) turned it on in the third period, scoring three unanswered goals to take the victory. Ryan Donnelly had a pair of goals for Swampscott with Louis Olivieri and Ryan Cresta each adding a goal and an assist.
Stevie Santanello also had a goal for the Big Blue, who got 23 stops in net from Dan Johnson.Concord-Carlisle 2, Peabody 2
In a preview of a possible Division 2 North tournament game, the Tanners (9-7-3) had to settle for a point after Chuck Sample tied the game for C-C with 2:22 left.
Peabody dominated the opening period and led 2-0 on goals from Chris Gillen, assisted by Cam Smullen, and Reed Foster, assisted by Aaron Dollin. The Patriots scored late in the second to cut the lead to one.Gloucester 5, Lynnfield 5
The Pioneers (6-8-4) never had the lead but were able to rally from three one-goal deficits to salvage a point. Dan Sullivan had two goals and an assist to lead the Lynnfield offense.
Johnny Percoskie, Dan O?Leary and Mike Look also had goals with Rob Loconte adding three assists. Gloucester (9-6-4) had goals from Liam Lyons, Eddie Mahoney, Jack Nicastro, Sal Costanzo and Max VittandsSt. John?s Prep 3, Braintree 1
Senior Ted McNamara had a pair of goals on senior night as the Eagles (14-5-1) closed out the regular season with a flourish by notching their sixth straight win.Northeast Regional 2, Salem 1
The Witches (10-7-2) put together what coach Ted Hanley called his team?s “best game of the year” in the finals of the Mulloy Tournament. Salem got a Sam Petri goal in the third period, assisted by Mike Gillis, to make it a one-goal game. Nick Holt had 28 stops in goal for Salem.GIRLS
