Saugus group gives to World Series ParkSaugus Business Partnership president Eric Lucier of Wheelabrator Saugus and treasurer John Smolinsky of Webster First Federal Credit Union recently presented the organization’s annual donation to the World Series Park Building Fund to park superintendent Bob Davis.The World Series Park, located behind the Belmonte Middle School, is home field to several local teams, including Saugus High School, Saugus Babe Ruth, Saugus American Legion and AAU teams.Wheelabrator Saugus donates to new softball fieldWheelabrator Saugus recently donated $5,000 to the new softball field that is being built at the Belmonte Middle School. The renewable energy company has been a longtime community partner, repeatedly stepping up to assist with many fundraising efforts in town. Most recently Wheelabrator donated a new rescue boat to the Saugus Fire Department and has annually been the presenting sponsor of the Agganis Special Olympics, as well as provided support to many other organizations in town.The construction of the field was started Dec. 22 and is being supervised by World Series Park. As much as possible was done before the winter set in. The urgency in getting it started is to have the field ready for play for the 2015 softball season.This will be the home field for Saugus Softball Little League, which involves hundreds of Saugus girls from 4 to 16 years of age. This new field will provide more opportunity for the playing of softball in Saugus and will help to grow Saugus Softball.Some of the financing has already been pledged, but more is needed.Individuals, businesses and organizations who would like to donate to this worthwhile project are asked to make checks payable to Saugus Softball Little League and send to Saugus Softball, P.O. Box 903, Saugus, MA 01906. All donations will be acknowledged at the spring dedication of the field.
