REVERE – Soon after anti-Islamic fliers were reported found along Shirley Avenue, Revere residents have responded with a message of their own.”Stop the hate in our neighborhood,” a handwritten flier read. “Unite Revere for all our neighbors.”Revere officials began getting reports of anti-Islamic fliers being found along Shirley Avenue and at the corner of Beach Street and North Shore Road, across from the Revere Beach MBTA station, on Tuesday.The fliers read, “All Muslims will be killed in America and Europe, and Muhammad the Prophet’s image will be burned unless ISIS surrenders within 72 hours!!!”Revere Mayor Daniel Rizzo condemned the fliers, saying he was “outraged.””Revere has grown more and more diverse over time, and the heart and soul of our community beats as one,” Rizzo said in a statement Thursday. “I would like to encourage residents, faith leaders, and other community stakeholders to contact my office if you have any concerns or questions relating to this situation.”Revere Police have also began investigating the incident and are looking to see if the fliers represent a credible threat, Lt. Amy O’Hara said Thursday.Meanwhile, the community has also responded.”All people will live in harmony in America, Europe, Africa, Asia when we stop targeting our brothers and sisters and start pooling our resources to stop murder,” reads a new flier posted on an MBTA map and forwarded to The Item by the mayor’s office Thursday. The flier has a crossed-out heading “All Muslims” and concludes with the hashtag #SpareMuslimsStopIsis.
