February 23, 2015 by Matthew Roy

After dominating the Northeastern Conference all season, the Danvers wrestling team shined on the big stage at Wakefield High Saturday as the Falcons finished fourth as a team in the Division 3 finals.
Leading the way for Danvers was NEC MVP Chris Behen, who blitzed through his competition in the 138 pound bracket. On Saturday, he blanked Mt. Greylock?s Travis Hitchey, 4-0, before dominating Hampshire Regional?s Brendan Weir, 13-6, in the finals.
The Falcons weren?t done claiming titles though as the brothers Holland ? Colby and Quintin ? won the 113 and 152 pound divisions respectively.
Colby Holland was just as dominant as Behen en route to the title, going the distance only once in four matches, as he pinned Dedham?s Jason Sulinski in 3:11 to win the title.
Quintin Holland had to survive a tooth-and-nail semifinal match against Georgetown?s Constantine Galanis in the semifinals as he took a 7-6 decision. In the finals against Triton?s Luke Boyle, Holland led most of the way in a 6-2 victory.
The Lynnfield/North Reading wrestlers finished 14thoverall with 50 points. Brandon Troisi was the top place finisher for LNR as he backed up his North title with a third place finish in the 285 pound class on Saturday.
Troisi reached the semifinals before dropping an 11-6 decision to Dean Tech?s Philip Fernandes. Troisi rebounded to beat Quabbin?s Brent Leger and Taconic?s Dave Jones in the losers bracket to take third.
The other placing wrestler for LNR was Max Whyman, who placed sixth at 126 pounds.
Whyman reached the semifinals before losing to Scituate?s Rob McDonald. He then lost a North final rematch against Wilmington?s Fox Maxwell before dropping his final bout to Taconic?s Nick Bailey to place sixth.
In the Division 1 competition at Methuen, St. John?s Prep finished fifth with 76.5 points.
The highlight for the Eagles was Ian Butterbrodt capping his outstanding career with a state title at 220 pounds. The senior was simply dominant as he had to go the distance just once ? a 5-0 semifinal win over Springfield Central?s Ryan Pinkham ? en route to the title.
Butterbrodt defeated South sectional champion Kenny Kern of Xaverian by pin at 3:17 of the finals.Hunter Costa provided a second place finish in the 138 pound class. Costa rolled into the finals before running into West champion Ryan Monteiro of Minnechaug, who picked up an 11-4 victory.
