Cong. Seth Moulton added two locals to his team last week.Swampscott resident Rick Jakious is his district director and Saugus native Jennifer Migliore is his district representative.Jakious, who previously worked in Cong. Brian Baird’s campaign in Washington, says he wasn’t anticipating another role in politics. The opportunity to work with Moulton was the deciding factor.?It was rather unexpected,” Jakious said, “I wasn’t seeking a role back in government. What was compelling at the end of the day was who Congressman Moulton is, what he stands for and what I think he can accomplish in this district.”Jakious said although he hadn’t considered returning to government, he followed Moulton’s campaign and came away impressed with what he saw from the Congressman.?I have admired and fo?l?lowed Congressman Mo?ulton throughout his entire campaign,” Jakious said. “As a voter I had really high expectations for him. When he approached me to work for his team I felt honored to be his district director.”He also spoke highly of Moulton’s ability to lead a team effectively.?(He) brings the kind of thoughtful, deliberate and humble approach and skill set to convene people to work towards a solution,” Jakious said. One of his biggest goals as district director is to reach out to community leaders and get a sense of what cities and towns need most from the federal government.?A huge part of what we’re doing is getting out there and listening,” Jakious said. “We’re talking to business leaders, faith-based leaders, community leaders and citizens to see where we can have the biggest impact and help the communities most from the perspective of the federal government.”He also said Moulton’s team has an understanding that the task at-hand goes beyond the political aspects.?It’s about the recognition that government is much more than politics,” Jakious said. “It’s about rolling up your sleeves and helping people.”The challenge that Jakious and the rest of the team is currently facing is that of building a strong organization while answering the current needs of the communities.?To some extent we are building the airplane while we fly it,” Jakious said. “There are immediate needs. Constituents are calling us for help and that’s our job. But we need to build a robust organization while meeting the needs.”Migliore, a 2014 graduate of Wellesley College, says she became inspired to work in politics from her time there.?It was an amazing experience for me,” she said. “That’s where Hillary Clinton went to college and it’s where I got engaged in politics and learned how the government can really help people. I got passionate about politics at Wellesley.”Much like Jakious, Migliore also spoke highly of Moulton and of excitement to join his team.?I’m honored and privileged,” she said. “I believe in his dedication and commitment to service.”As district representative, Migliore will work within community outreach and make sure that Moulton knows what’s happening in the communities and where people are concerned. She’ll also be working to aid constituents with any needs they may have from federal agencies.Migliore has experience in working with constituents from her time as an intern with Sen. Elizabeth Warren. She also has political experience from working with Attorney General candidate Warren Tolman.
