Police: Lynn resident shot man over a stolen laptop

LYNN – A judge ordered a man held without bail after police said the defendant shot somebody he believes had stolen his laptop.Tyrone Lites, 36, of 1 Kingsley Terrace #8, Lynn, pleaded not guilty in Lynn District Court Thursday to charges of armed assault to murder; discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building; and carrying an unlicensed firearm, fourth offense.The alleged victim stopped a cruiser passing in front of the police station at 7:19 p.m. on Feb. 25 and told officers he had been shot. The alleged victim, a 21-year-old homeless man, initially told police a man named “Tyson” shot him, then said the alleged assailant’s name was “Tyrone” and lived at the Kingsley Terrace address, according to a report by Lynn Police Officer Ross Panacopoulos. The alleged victim said his assailant fled in a dark Dodge Charger.The alleged victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound to the chest.Minutes later, police reported they found a Dodge Charger left running in the middle of the City Hall parking lot. Police reported that a spent shell casing was on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat.Officers noted they had gone to the Kingsley Terrace address the day before when Lites reported his apartment had been burglarized and his MacBook Pro laptop was among the articles missing, according to Lynn Police Officer Jeffrey Trahant. Officers said Lites said he thought the computer was stolen by the alleged victim, according to court documents.Essex Assistant District Attorney Michael Varone requested Thursday that Lites be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. A defense attorney did not challenge probable cause for the hearing and requested a March 12 date.Judge Joseph Jennings ordered Lites held without bail pending a March 12 dangerousness hearing.
