SAUGUS – Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man from a shoplifting Sunday who might also be connected to a carjacking in Boston.The manager of the Walgreens on Route 1 South in Saugus called police at 12:39 p.m. Sunday to report a shoplifting.According to the Saugus Police log, the manager described the suspect as a white man of average height and medium build. The man had short salt-and-pepper hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket with an Oakland Raiders logo on the back and black running pants with a white stripe. The man stole a basket with undetermined goods and fled in a car that was reported stolen from East Boston, according to the Saugus Police Log.Police are actively trying to determine whether the individual in the photo is the same individual who was arrested in connection with a carjacking in East Boston Sunday where a man allegedly stole a car with a 4-year-old boy inside, Police Spokesman John Guilfoil said. The car was found in East Boston earlier Monday, and Ronald Smoot, 50, was held on $25,000 cash bail after his arraignment in East Boston Municipal Court, according to a Suffolk District Attorney spokesman.
