SWAMPSCOTT – Police said they don’t expect major delays but are advising commuters that a delivery of steel to the site of the former Red Rock Bistro is scheduled for Thursday morning and may affect the commute.”We’re doing everything we can to mitigate the impact and hope it’s just one day,” Marty Bloom, a partner in the Mission on the Bay restaurant, said Tuesday.Bloom said that the steel and a crane will be delivered to the waterfront site on Humphrey Street at 7 a.m. Thursday. The truck should be able to pull into the construction site to unload the cargo, and there will be two lanes of traffic open throughout the delivery and day, Bloom said.Swampscott Police Sgt. Tim Cassidy said two officers will be on detail to help with traffic Thursday and one officer will be on duty Friday for further activity at the site. But officers do not anticipate too much delay to commuters, Cassidy said. He acknowledged, however, that the area is frequently backed up during the morning commute and suggested that commuters might want to plan ahead Thursday morning.Bloom said the record-breaking snowfall has delayed the steel delivery and construction, putting the restaurant about five weeks behind schedule. Mission on the Bay will be the partners’ second location, the first being Mission Oak Grill in Newburyport. Plans for the restaurant include two levels of dining, including on a rooftop deck. The restaurant will also retain a snack bar/take-out counter for those wanting ice cream as they stroll the beach.
