SAUGUS – “Many times in life the rough patches make us stronger and more committed.”That?s the attitude that Board of Selectmen chair Ellen Faiella has taken over the past six months.?As a lifelong resident of this community, I cherish having grown up here and also raising my children here,” Faiella said. “Saugus is a wonderful community.”She said she is humbled to have served on the board since 2013, especially as chair. Faiella is pleased with the progress that the board has made.?This board has worked very hard to ensure that the residents of Saugus, its citizens and taxpayers are protected,” she said. “We have researched issues prior to casting votes.”As far as board accomplishments, she cited taking action on the grease trap issue – an issue that had languished without result for many years. Requests for licenses that have not been rubber-stamped have been granted and denied, as appropriate, she said.?The Elm Street Bridge was another issue that rested with boards before us and, after much consideration, it was voted not to apply for a grant that was being sought under the previous administration,” Faiella said. “Had this been affirmed, the problem would have exacerbated problems elsewhere and with no hydraulic studies done, the board deemed this too risky.”She said the board only asks one question when making decisions.?While some of our detractors say otherwise, we have conducted ourselves in a professional, transparent and dignified manner,” she said. “The only consideration given when we have made a decision is: “What is in the best interest of Saugus?”
