A judge allowed a Revere man to remain free Wednesday on charges he vandalized a vintage trolley and other MBTA property throughout downtown Boston, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced Wednesday.Marc Meadowcroft, 19, of Revere, pleaded not guilty in Boston Municipal Court Wednesday to 12 counts of defacing property in connection with seven separate incidents at multiple MBTA stations.MBTA Transit Police responded to Boylston MBTA station the morning of Jan. 14, 2014 to find extensive graffiti damage to two 1950s trolleys displayed in the station. Among the graffiti was the tag name “CIGA,” prosecutors said. Conley said this same tag name was subsequently found at the State Street station on Nov. 20 and on Dec. 1; at South Station on Dec. 25; at Chinatown station on Jan. 3 and Feb. 25, and in and around the Back Bay station on Feb. 12. Several incidents were allegedly captured by surveillance cameras. With the assistance of Boston University Police, who were also seeking the person using the tag name “CIGA” for damage on BU property, Transit Police were able to identify Meadowcroft as a suspect, police said.Transit Police also spoke with Amtrak Police, who arrested Meadowcroft at South Station on Dec. 29. In that incident, Meadowcroft allegedly became assaultive of and disorderly to an Amtrak inspector after the defendant and a companion refused to pay their fares, police said. The inspector allegedly identified the person in surveillance photos defacing property as the same person the inspector arrested at South Station. He was charged with assault and battery on a police officer; disorderly conduct; and resisting arrest, according to Conley’s office.Meadowcroft was arrested on a default warrant Tuesday afternoon after failing to appear in court on the pending assault case.Assistant District Attorney Eric Anderson requested $200 cash bail for each of the seven dockets – a total of $1,400 – and that Meadowcroft wear a GPS monitor and stay away from all MBTA property if released. Anderson also requested the judge revoke Meadowcroft’s bail on the open case.Judge Catherine Byrne released Meadowcroft on personal recognizance with orders to stay away from MBTA property.Meadowcroft is scheduled to return to court June 4.
