Mount Vernon Street goes back in timeLights, camera, action! Vintage cars lined Mount Vernon Street Thursday to transport Lynn to 1970s Boston. This transformation was done for the pilot of “Broad Squad,” which tells the story of the first female police officers in Boston.Lynn Department of Public Works trucks were out in full force to remove snow banks early Thursday morning to make room for the parade of Pontiac GTOs and Volkswagen Beetles.The pilot will star Lauren Ambrose of “Six Feet Under” fame and “True Blood” vampire Rutina Wesley.Fight for Lisa this Sunday in MaldenBreast Cancer Awareness Ball founders Greg Domey Sr. and Donna Russo will rally this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MIXX360 (former Rain Nightclub), 665 Broadway, Malden, to support Saugus native Lisa Basler in her fight against cancer.Domey, a Saugus business owner, said Basler, 29, needs help paying for medications that, he said, “could very well extend her life.””This event is solely to raise funds for Lisa’s medication for her upcoming treatments,” Domey said.Sunday’s event includes displays prepared by 20 local businesses, raffles, a free Zumba/Step class at noon and food, cash bar, music and dancing.Alukonis the belle of the ballLynn native Anna-Marie Alukonis was crowned the 2015 Miss Massachusetts USA Ambassador Jr. Teen March 8 at the Radisson Hotel in Nashua, N.H. Her sister Ashley was first runner-up in her division.Anna-Marie, 13, is the daughter of Michael and Kathy Alukonis and granddaughter of Maureen Kidney and Mike and Sue Alukonis. She attends the Saugus Pioneer Charter School of Science II, where she is an honor roll student. In her spare time, she enjoys dance, four-wheeling and spending time with her family.”Pageants help girls gain confidence. Anyone interested can email [email protected] for more information.Saugus seeks out environmental leadersThe Saugus River Watershed Council is now accepting applications for its 2015 Environmental Leadership Scholarship. One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior graduating during the spring of 2015 and attending college next fall. This year’s recipient will be selected based upon commitment to environmental protection, academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, and statement of personal commitment to protecting the environment. Financial need may be considered on a secondary basis among finalists.To be eligible, applicants must live in one of the following 11 communities that are part of the Saugus River watershed: Saugus, Lynn, Lynnfield, Wakefield, Reading, Revere, Everett, Malden, Melrose, Peabody and Stoneham.
