March 21, 2015 by Tara Vocino

SAUGUS – The new Saugus Board of Selectmen hasn?t decided what to do about the contract of newly appointed Town Manager Sean Fitzgerald, but the five members have given it some thought. The selectmen, after being sworn in last week, met with Town Counsel John Vasapoli in executive session, with Fitzgerald?s status among the topics. However, they had nothing to say publicly about the situation.Beyond that, each articulated their goals, pretty much agreeing that healing the wounds caused by the recent recall election is a top priority.?We?ll bring pride back to the town of Saugus,” said Mark Mitchell. “I?ve grown up in this town, and it means a lot to me.”Jeffrey Cicolini echoed that.?My promise to the people of Saugus hasn?t changed,” Cicolini said. “I?ll do everything in my power to work together. I would like to thank everyone who came out tonight to support me.”?We?re bringing the next generation to Saugus,” Jennifer D?Eon said. “I hope the other families who live here will join us. Saugus is someplace special. I love this town, and I thank you.”Scott A. Brazis, who was elected as vice chairman, said, “some things went wrong, and we needed a change. Through all of us being here, we accomplished that. The town will become one. God bless every one of you.”Brazis promised respect, civility, communication and collaboration.?I am overwhelmed and honored by the huge vote of support from the residents of Saugus,” he said. “Thank you. I look forward to working for the residents on the priorities and town issues that matter most to us. I am excited to be part of a group of selectmen that are committed to be part of the solutions for Saugus. Saugus first!”Debra Panetta, the lone holdover from the old board, was elected chair.?Jeff and Mark have the skill set to uphold those community objectives,” Panetta said. “Scott has the skills and planning mindset needed to engage our charter in a respectful manner. Jenn is able to engage with people – being in the healthcare field – and I?m sure she can help guide us in ways we haven?t seen.”At Tuesday?s meeting, selectmen plan to go over correspondence, continued/public hearings and member?s comments regarding the date and time of selectmen meetings, followed by another execution session about the pending litigation strategy.
