Tech baseball hopes to notch some victories

Matthew Roy

March 21, 2015 by Matthew Roy

Yes, the record says Lynn Tech baseball went winless a year ago. But sometimes a record doesn?t tell the whole story, and that was the case for coach Harold German?s team.
The Tigers were competitive in almost every game, losing several in the final at bat or final inning. With a solid core returning, German is optimistic that the Tigers will improve.
?Had a couple of things gone our way last year, we could have had a pretty respectable record,” German said. “I think that we?re going to be better than we were last year. These kids are great and they understand what its all about.”
Leading the way are seniors Rodinson Aguilar and Sreyone Eang. Aguilar played both corner infield positions last year while Eang pitched and played in the outfield.
Behind them are a trio of juniors who spent time in the starting lineup last season. Enderson Mejia is a utility-type player that German says can play all over the diamond. The same goes for Brian Umeh, while Nick Petrilia can play all three spots in the outfield.
?I really think that we will catch the ball well on defense,” German said. “We need to see what happens with the bats. Last year, we didn?t hit very well but played pretty good defense. That was a change in how it had been in the past.
?It?s a clean slate every year,” German said. “I want to put the kids in a position to be successful and I expect all of them to contribute in some way.”
The Tigers are supposed to open the season early in April, but that?s still very much up in the air because of the weather and an inability to get outside to practice.
?You really can?t do very much inside,” German said. “Right now, it?s a lot of running and fundamentals. Hopefully, next week we will be able to pick up the pace a little bit baseball wise if we can get outside.”
