Nahant comes alive with the sound of musicTwo concert series and a dance troupe call Nahant home, and Saturday’s Village Church performance highlighted the skills and accomplishments of participating artists.Soprano Ute Gfrerer-Wald, bass-baritone Rupert Bergmann, violinist Katharina Radlberger and pianist William Merrill performed the music of Mozart and “Fiddler on the Roof” selections.”These artists have all made music together in Nahant in the past,” said Ellingwood Chapel Concert Series spokesman James Walsh.The Ellingwood Series, Forty Steps Dance Company and Nahant Music Festival have carved out a performing arts community in Nahant with the help of local patrons and the Nahant Cultural Council, Walsh said.Dick Carter and Lynne Spencer laid the groundwork, Walsh said, 15 years ago for a local chamber music series that grew into Ellingwood. Friends of Ellingwood Chapel helped sustain the series, sowing fertile ground for the Nahant Music Festival to debut under Don Wilkinson’s guidance last year with Forty Steps giving its first Town Hall performance in 2014.Youth learn about living with diabetes at Teddy Bear ClinicMore than 100 guests, including 75 young Joslin patients and their families, some from Lynn, visited Joslin Diabetes Center recently for the 12th annual Teddy Bear Clinic. The event was an opportunity for young patients living with type 1 diabetes, and their families, to learn about the condition and help them feel comfortable managing it. Teddy bears were donated by the Four Seasons Hotel and the event was staffed by teenage Joslin patient volunteers and students from Boston-area colleges.Each child at Joslin’s clinic had the opportunity to pick a teddy bear, and learn how to care for their new friend as they made their rounds to the various medical stations with their bear’s medical record. Stations included measuring the bear’s height with a ruler, weighing their bear, taking its blood pressure, checking their bear’s blood sugar and giving it insulin, if needed.Make your lunch reservations with the Easter BunnyA reminder that tickets are still available to have lunch with the Easter Bunny this Saturday at Old Tyme Italian Cuisine.The Easter Bunny will hop on in to the Boston Street restaurant at 11 a.m. Saturday, and attendees can make arts and crafts, decorate Easter eggs and take pictures with the guest of honor. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door, and will be available for purchase on the high school website. Proceeds will be used to apply for matching grants and for other robotic supplies.
