Lynn swim teams celebrate season at awards banquet

Kevin Chasse of Classical and Matt Bruno of English, who were co-Male Swimmers of the Year, and Sarah Sirois of Classical, who won Diver of the Year, headlined the citywide swim banquet held Monday night at the Prince Pizzeria in Saugus.
Each school also gave out individual awards.
For Classical, Allysha Dunnigan and Erinn Daly won co-Most Valuable Swimmers, while Jesus Contreras and Courtney Braswell both won Most Improved Swimmer. Elias Bakas won the Spirit Award and Medhi Bakhouch won the Peter A. Sawin Unsung Hero Award. There were two Coaches Award winners, Megan McCarthy and Harrison Seitz.
The coaches and team captains for Classical also were presented with the Lynn City Championship trophy for winning the city meet this season. Chasse, Sirois, and Daly were each presented with their Northeastern Conference All-Star certificates. Sirois also was given a Record Breaker plaque for shattering the Women?s Lynn High School pool record after she scored 240.65 diving points on Jan. 29.
English awarded its Most Valuable Swimmer award to Bruno, the team captain. Devin Curley and Lauren Moorehouse were named co-Most Improved Swimmers. Meng Kim was given the Peter A. Sawin Unsung Hero Award, while Ryan Whittier won the Spirit Award. Kylie Moorehouse was given the coaches award. Shanel Turransky took home two awards, the Student/Athlete of the Year and the Diving Coaches Award.
For Lynn Tech, Nick Westin won took home two awards, including Most Valuable Swimmer. He also won co-Student/Athlete of the Year with Coral Gonzalez. Antonio Morales won Most Improved Swimmer and Allyssa Shaw was given the Coaches Award. Caroline MacDonald won the Peter A. Sawin Unsung Hero Award, while Luz Ortega was given the Spirit Award. Juan Bernabe and Steven Paz won co-Diving Coaches Awards.
