April 1, 2015 by Mike Alongi

The Marblehead girls started their season with a tie at Woburn on Tuesday. After going into the half down, 6-4, the Magicians rallied back to go home with a 9-9 tie.
?We obviously still have lots to work on,” said coach Annie Pugh. “But today?s tie showed that we have a bright future in Marblehead.”
Sophomore Lucie Poulin and freshman Hadley Carlton each scored three goals for the Magicians. Caroline Driscoll and Abby Settelmeyer each scored a goal, and senior Grace McGurrin added an assist.
Junior goalie Brittany Lydon had 11 saves.
?We have more depth this year than ever before,” Pugh said. “I?m looking forward to seeing our growth over the next few months.”

The Panthers started their year off on the right note Tuesday with a convincing win at home over Newburyport.
The Clippers played a good first half and the Panthers only led 5-4 going into the break. Newburyport kept it close in the second half before Beverly (1-0) broke the game open.
Grace Otterbein led the Panthers with five points (two goals, three assists). Alicia Cecchini was right behind with four goals and Elizabeth Musumeci notched two goals and two assists. Megan Gavin and Meghan Henrichon each scored two goals, while Marita Smallman and Maeve Blake added one goal each.
?They (Newburyport) had a great year last year,” Panthers? coach Alyson Healey said. “We knew they were going to come out strong this year. But everything went well for us in the second half.”
The Panthers will play Ipswich at home on Thursday.
