Kessler running for second Board of Selectmen term

SWAMPSCOTT – Glenn Kessler is running for a second, three-year term in the April 28 election against newcomer Peter A. Spellios.?Three years ago, I ran because I believed that the then Board of Selectmen did not do enough to include residents in important matters affecting them directly,” Kessler said. “I believed I could make a difference – and I have.”Kessler cited his accomplishments: He?s worked closely with Swampscott residents and town officials – gaining valuable insight into critical issues affecting the town, including his involvement as selectman liaison to the Athletic Field Study Committee, Veterans? Committee, Council on Aging, Disabilities Commission, Renewable Energy Committee, Regionalization Committee, Historical Commission and Harbor and Waterfront Advisory Committee. He worked hard to build consensus, advocate for his committees? causes, and above all, make things more transparent for residents, Kessler noted.?My tenure will continue to be based on two primary issues: fiscal responsibility (including our town officials developing a short- and long-term capital improvement plan), and attention to our aging infrastructure (including storm drainage renovations, road repairs, school building maintenance and others),” Kessler said. “If re-elected, I will continue to stress transparency in government and ensure that residents are included in discussions of major decisions affecting our town, as I strongly believe in a robust connection between town government and its residents.”He has lived in Precinct 5 for 19 years with his wife, Ellen, and his two children, Morgan, 17, and Mallory, 14, who attend Swampscott High School. Graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor?s in animal science and biology in 1975, Kessler works as account manager for Emcor, a nationally recognized facilities services company.?Even before becoming a selectman, I was active in the town as a former member of the Little League Board of Directors, was an active member of the Recreation Commission and have been a longtime member of Temple Emmanuel,” Kessler said.Kessler said to vote for him if residents want to continue to have a more open and accessible town administration.
