Despite losing, 9-4, to Malden on Thursday at Manning Field, Lynn Shamrocks coach Peter Pappagianopoulos came away pleased with the way his team battled through all four quarters.
?These kids wanted to keep working. They fought right to the end,” Pappagianopoulos said. “That was something that we didn?t see at times last year.”
The Shamrocks (1-1) struggled to get a consistent offensive attack going against Malden despite Sean Hemenway turning in a hat trick and Corey Wojewodzic netting his seventh goal in two games. The big problem for Lynn came at the defensive end as a well-drilled Golden Tornadoes team took advantage of little mistakes by the Shamrocks.
?You could tell that they?ve been practicing on a field while we?ve been inside a gym,” Pappagianopoulos said. “A lot of it for us was being in the wrong position defensively. It?s a lot difference space-wise when you?re on a field compared to being inside. It will come in time and with practice.”
BOYS? LACROSSE
Boston College High 12, St. John?s Prep 11

K.J. Sarni gave the Eagles a 10-8 lead through three quarters but the Prep scored just once in the fourth as BC High rallied. GIRLS? LACROSSE
Beverly 8, Ipswich 7
Beverly improved to 2-0 with a thrilling win over Ipswich. After a 5-5 tie in the first half, the Panthers made some key defensive adjustments that allowed them to slow down the visiting Tigers. Megan Gavin led the Panthers with four goals, including the game winner in the second half. Elizabeth Musumeci added two goals, while Marita Smallman and Grace Otterbein each netted one.
?It was a close game the whole way,” Beverly coach Alyson Healey said. “Ipswich has a strong team with some great offensive players, and we had to make adjustments.”
