Boys’ Lacrosse: Winthrop opens with win

The Lynn Shamrocks held up well on defense but struggled to generate a sustained offensive attack on Monday and it resulted in a 6-3 loss to Winthrop at Manning Field.
Chris Foley had a pair of goals with Jesus Contreras also scoring. Corey Wojewodzic assisted on all three goals.
?This is one of those tough ones to get over because we really could have won the game,” Lynn coach Peter Pappagianopoulos said. “We dominated possession at times but just couldn?t finish.”
Winthrop (1-0) got a four-goal effort from Jonathan Griffith. Dan Brogan had two goals while Devin Recow made eight stops in goal.
Bishop Fenwick 16, St. Mary?s 12
It was the Mark Nalesnik show on Monday as his seven goals led the Crusaders (2-1) to a comeback win at Donaldson Field in Peabody. Chris Napolitano was also red hot, notching a hat trick and four assists, while Jake Mitchell had three goals and three assists.
Coleman Hebert, Chris Carney, Sam Mitchell and Chris Terry also scored for Fenwick.
The Spartans (1-2) got a six-goal game from James Torosian and 20 stops in net by goalie Brendan Donahue.
Arlington 5, Lynnfield 4 (OT)
The Pioneers got a solid defensive effort for four quarters but a penalty late in regulation gave the Spy Ponders an advantage in overtime, which they converted for a 5-4 victory.
?It was a tough, physical game,” Lynnfield coach Joe Papagni said. “I was happy with the way we played. I saw a lot of kids who stepped up and were able to compete at the varsity level.”
Lynnfield (1-1) got a goal and two assists from Jon Knee and Pat Garrity. Jake Forgione and Alex Soden also recorded goals for the Pioneers.
Max Robert, Mike Look and Victor Buonfiglio had stellar games on the defensive end, and goalkeeper Jack Ganter made eight saves.

Swampscott (1-1) was in control from the outset, running out to a 9-2 halftime lead. Devin Conroy had a hat trick to lead the Swampscott offense. Jason Dignan added two goals and an assist while going 11-for-11 on face-offs. Spencer Mulvey netted a goal and two assists with Sebastian Camelo and Anthony Rizzo each scoring once for Swampscott.
POSTPONEMENT
Beverly-Danvers was postponed. No make-up date has been scheduled yet.
