School Roundup: Revere rally comes up short against Medford

April 17, 2015 by Matt Fraser

A last-ditch attempt at a comeback from a tired Revere softball team came up just short on Thursday as the Patriots lost to visiting Medford, 4-3.
Having played just just 24 hours before, coach Joe Ciccarello could sense that his team was running on fumes. But even still, the hosts turned a 4-run deficit into the kind of rally that could prove beneficial down the road.
Trailing by 3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Revere (2-1) strung together a couple of base hits, including a single from freshman Victoria Correia before a pair of passed balls cut the deficit to 1.
?I find that the best lessons in sports come through losses,” he said. “We can?t make up excuses because Medford played yesterday as well, but it?s tough playing on back-to-back days. We?re a team with a lot of young players so I commend them for fighting back.”
The Mustangs were able to do what few teams have been able to against Revere?s ace pitcher, Sabrina Palermo, scoring twice in the fourth inning. The highlight was a solo homer from pitching counterpart Ashley Eisnor, who struck out 11 to Palermo?s 4.KIPP 9, Community Charter of Cambridge 4In a thrilling season opener, KIPP entered the final inning trailing, 4-1, before staging an 8-run rally, all with two outs. Jilliana Rodriguez, Rachana Chau, Courtney Potter, and Cardeliz Paez all reached base and came around to score in the inning. Brianna Collins pitched a complete game for the win.

Junior Annika Han (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and senior Kelly Hosterman (2-for-3) highlighted an offensive explosion from the host Pioneers (1-0). Freshman Olivia Keane allowed just a single hit while striking out six Generals en route to the mercy-rule victory.
Chelsea 14, Tech 2 (5 innings)
It was too little too late for the host Tigers, who fell behind early before Belinda Miranda and Malvelis Hernandez came in to score prior to the game?s final out.
Mehrin Hueston added a base hit for Tech (0-2).BOYS? TRACK
