Matt Stanley went the distance and drove in the only run of the game, leading Lynn Classical to a 1-0 victory at Winthrop on Friday.
The Rams junior allowed six hits and struck out three while providing the only means of run support he?d need: an RBI single in the top of the first that scored sophomore speedster Tyler Way, who singled to begin the game.
?(Stanley) did very well in his first varsity start after pitching primarily in relief to this point,” said Classical coach Mike Zukowski. “He was confident with his fastball from start to finish.”
Senior Carlos Perez finished 2-for-3 for the Rams (5-1).
Seniors Dylan Driscoll (three hits) and Mike Rich (two) paced the offense for the Vikings (2-5), while sophomore Jack Wallace was strong on the mound, going six innings with four strikeouts. He gave up four hits.
Lowell Catholic 5, St. Mary?s 2 (9 innings)
Ryan Borders? fielder?s choice forced extra innings, but the Crusaders scored three times in the top of the ninth to pull away in Lynn.
Clay Yianacopolus (five hits, five strikeouts, four walks) pitched the first seven innings for St. Mary?s (5-3). The Spartans cut a 2-0 deficit in half in the third when PJ Hatchouel doubled before scoring on a dropped third strike.
Peabody 6, Marblehead 1
A two-run homer from Dan Kohn (2-for-3) and a steal of home from Tanner Moquin following a triple highlighted a four-run third inning for the Tanners, who also turned a triple play to snuff out the Magicians? attempt at a rally in the top of the sixth.
Matt Moorer (five innings, four hits, four strikeouts) picked up the win for Peabody. Ryan Collins singled in the lone Tanner run.
For the visiting Magicians, Jeff Stern plated Tom Rockett with an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Harrison Engstrom finished 2-for-3.
Danvers 5, Beverly 3 (9 innings)
The visiting Falcons scored the tying run on a two-out RBI single from Dan Lynch in the seventh inning before completing the comeback with a two-spot in ninth, courtesy of a balk and a sacrifice fly by Matt Andreas.
Andrew Olszak (eight hits) threw all nine innings for Danvers (4-2), striking out seven Panthers, including Luke Samperi to end the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.
David Drinkwater, Mike Courchene, and Samperi had RBIs for Beverly (3-3).
Revere 7, East Boston 2
Junior Maxx Anderson tossed a complete game two-hitter to propel the Patriots (2-4) past the host Jets in the opening round of the first annual Christy Serino Baseball Classic.
Saugus 11, Madison Park 0
