Boys Tennis Roundup: St. Mary’s stays perfect

The St. Mary?s boys’ tennis squad (8-0) continued its strong start to the season, beating Lowell Catholic by a score of 4-1 on Monday.
?I couldn?t be happier with the way these guys are playing,” said Spartans coach Brian Carlson. “I knew we?d have a strong team, but I couldn?t ask for a better start.”
Brady Ryan at first singles and Matt McManus at second singles both won their matches with perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores. Patrick Morin-Plante was victorious in third singles for St. Mary?s (6-0, 6-1). Noah Camelo and Conor Foley took their first doubles? match (6-2, 6-2).Swampscott 5, Salem 0
The Big Blue (3-3) came away with a big victory against Saugus, getting standout performances in every match.
?It?s all starting to come together now,” said Swampscott coach Neil Whitehouse.
Daniel Popovskiy swept his third singles? match, while Matt Jacobs (6-1, 6-0) and Ian Crimmins (6-2, 6-3) won first and second singles, respectively.
Sam Mayblum and John Rizk joined together to take the first doubles? match (6-2, 6-2), while the duo of Tyler Gateman and Ray Ramos won the second doubles? sets (6-1, 6-1).
Danvers 5, Revere 0
In a match that lasted more than three and a half hours, Revere (2-3) gave Danvers plenty of trouble, but in the end were unable to grab a victory.
Ryan Tran was beat in the first singles (6-0, 6-2). His was one of the only matches that didn?t go three sets. Mateo Lopez played what Patriots? coach Mike Flynn called “a marathon match,” losing the second singles in a tiebreaker (4-6, 6-0, 7-6). Nelson Ortiz played two tough sets, falling 6-2, 7-6 and losing 11-9 in the tiebreaker.
First doubles David Grugic and David Henao gave it a good effort but lost (7-6, 6-2, 6-3), and in second doubles, Naveed Jabbar and Josh Preciado lost in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).
Triton 3, Lynnfield 1
Alex Correa was the only winner for Lynnfield (0-5). Correa won the third singles? match (6-2, 6-0). Also notable was Colin Lamusta, who played well moving up to second singles, said to Lynnfield coach Adam Milholland.
St. John?s 5, Malden Catholic 0
It was a good day all around for St. John?s (5-0). Scott Reister had the closest match of the day for St. John?s, winning 6-1, 6-4. Evan Maguire (6-0, 6-0 in second singles) and Nick Salacchi (6-0, 6-1 in third singles) also won. In doubles? action, Mateo Jacome and Tom Shea won the first doubles? match (6-0, 6-1). Twin brothers Greg and Mike Cook came together to take the second doubles match by the same score.Austin Prep 5, Bishop Fenwick 0
It was a tough day for the Crusaders (1-5). Jack Palmachuk and Will Bethune made things close in the first doubles? sets, losing 4-6, 7-5, 3-6.
In other action, Marblehead beat Lynn English, 5-0.
POSTPONEMENTS
