The St. Mary?s Spartans got off to a good start at home against Arlington Catholic, but couldn?t keep it going as they suffered a 17-7 loss on Monday afternoon. Liz Weisse was the Spartans? leading scorer with two goals in the loss.
Paige Fielding, McKenzie Spates, Kayla Magwood, Maggie Flaherty and Sarah Ryan each scored one goal for St. Mary?s.
?We started off strong,” said St. Mary?s coach Al Eaton. “But they just took it to us after that.”
Brittany McPherson and Emma Harvey split time in goal for the Spartans. McPherson had five saves in the first half, while Harvey stopped three shots in the second half.GIRLS? LACROSSE
Bishop Fenwick 18, Matignon 1
Bishop Fenwick (7-2) coasted to a win behind a five-goal effort from Merry Harrington against Matignon. Hannah Durkin and Abbey Rocker added two goals each, while nine Crusaders — Tori Hernandez, Colleen Corcoran, Molly Camelo, Colbi Flickinger, Jackie Hart, Emily Rocker, Nicole Muir, Teegan Ahern and Ally Charette — scored one goal each.

Winthrop 9, Lynn Shamrocks 2
The Vikings (3-3) got solid goaltending and offensive production in a win over Lynn (2-7). Vikings goalie Dan Sennot stopped eight shots. Dan Brogan led the Vikings with two goals and three assists. Alex Anzuoini (two goals, one assist), Dave Barry and Jonathan Griffith (two goals each), and Chris Beaudry (one goal) all contributed for the Vikings.
Corey Wojewodzic scored both goals for the Shamrocks in the loss.
?It wasn?t one of our better performances. We definitely need to clean things up,” said Winthrop coach Matt Serino. “But our mantra this year has been ?just win.? So we?ll take them as we can get them right now.”
Bishop Fenwick 19, Matignon 2
The Crusaders (5-4) cruised to an easy win at home behind some high-powered scoring from all over the roster. Six players scored at least two goals, with Mark Nalesnik (five goals, one assist). Chris Napolitano (three goals, four assists), Aidan Moulton (three goals, three assists), Jake Mitchell, Sam Mitchell, Cam McCarthy (two goals each), Peter Choi and Chris Carney (goal each) all contributed.
Arlington Catholic 21, St. Mary?s 12
The Spartans (6-5) had a chance in this one after the first half, but they took too many bad penalties. Eight Spartan penalties turned into eight goals for Arlington Catholic.
?We did some good things in the first half,” said Spartans? coach Shawn Anderson. “But we?ve got to stay out of the box. It killed us.”
Austin Frankel (four goals), James Torosian, Dante Maribito, Nick Amenta and Anthony Delvecchio (two goals each) contributed for the Spartans.
?We just ran out of gas in the second half and they jumped all over us,” Anderson said.
Reading 9, Marblehead 4
The Magicians (6-4) were plagued by turnover trouble, and Reading made them pay for it. Brooks Tyrrell and Manning Sears each scored two goals for Marblehead.
?The game was probably closer than the score indicates,” said Marblehead coach John Wilkens. “We just turned the ball over too much today. We?re going to have to clean that up.”

Beverly 71, Lynn English 64
Lynn English (1-4) came up just short, winning 10 events but still taking the loss. C.J. Hernandez, James Cabral, Hugh Calice, Joshua Osawe and Daekwon Shephard were all multiple-event winners.
The 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relay teams both took first place for English. The 4×100 team of Shephard, Hernandez, Calice and Sam Adewale won with a time of 46.9 seconds. The 4×400 team of Cabral, Osawe, Kevin Francisco and Andy Choun won with a time of 3 minutes 52 seconds.
Hernandez also took first place in the high jump with a height of 5 feet 8 inches and first in the 100-meter dash (11.8). Calice won both the long jump (19-1), the triple jump (39-0), and the 110-meter hurdles (16.9). Osawe won the 200 (25.1) seconds, while Cabral won the 400 (53.1). Mason Mop took first in the 400-meter hurdles for English (1:09).
