Softball Roundup: Saugus’ rally stuns Classical

It was the kind of win that Saugus coach Jessica Lucier had been looking for. Trailing by six runs entering the bottom of the sixth inning on Monday, the Sachems (2-5) rallied to score five times and then added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 9-8 win over Lynn Classical.
?For our girls to win a game like this is huge,” Lucier said. “Classical is known for being a great team and they?ve contended in the league for years so the girls are really excited.”
Classical (4-2) was in complete control for 5 ? innings despite leaving 12 runners on base. But when Ivy Martin ran into a little bit of control trouble in the bottom of the sixth, the Sachems pounced.
?We had a couple of bad innings and couldn?t get a hit when we needed it,” Classical coach Erica Richard said.
Saugus? Katie Sheehan (3-for-3, two-run triple), Nikayla Niles (3-for-5), Pauline Ascolese (3-for-3, RBI, two runs) all contributed. Brooke Westmoreland got the win.
Classical?s Madison Angelli (3-for-4) Ally Dunnigan (two-run home run) led the Rams.
Marblehead 15, English 3
The Magicians (7-1) exploded for 11 unanswered runs to turn a 4-3 game through three innings into a blowout. Allie Kapoll and Montana Joyce each had two-run homers to lead the offense while Madi Ernst struck out 10.
Rachel Calnan, Sam Holey and Shanna Zeramby all had hits for the Bulldogs (0-6).
St. Mary?s 5, Arlington Catholic 1
Michaela Hamill and Mia Nowicki combined on a 14-strikeout performance for the Spartans (5-1). Vanessa VanBuskirk (2-for-3, RBI), Jess Martinello (two hits, RBI), and Francesca Simon (1-for-3, two RBI) all contributed for the Spartans.
Swampscott 6, Salem 4
The Big Blue (5-3) broke a 4-4 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh for the win over the Witches (1-4). Hannah Leahy (2-for-3, two-run home run) got the save. Sam Rizzo (2-for-4, two doubles, three runs) also contributed.Revere 3, Danvers 2
The Patriots (5-1) scored three times in the top of the seventh, capped by Victoria Russo?s two-run homer, to defeat the Falcons (4-2).
?We showed a lot of resiliency,” Revere coach Joe Cicarello said.
Peabody 15, Gloucester 2 (5 innings)
The Tanners (3-2) took advantage of 12 walks and three hit batters to beat Gloucester (2-2). Katie Tansey was 1-for-1 but reached base four times and drove in four runs.
Peabody?s Shelbi Wilson allowed just two hits with nine strikeouts.
Archbishop Williams 7, Bishop Fenwick 1
The Crusaders (6-1) ran into a buzzsaw as Rachel Fisher had Fenwick?s lone hit and run of the game. Shortstop Mikayla Porcaro had a standout defensive game, recording seven assists and a putout.Beverly 12, Winthrop 3
Caitlyn Munzing (three hits, three RBI) led the Panthers (3-2). Emily Pitman scattered six hits while striking out seven and adding two hits and an RBI at the plate. Ally Cabral (two hits, three RBI) also contributed for Beverly.
Kennedy Health Careers 32, KIPP 4Brianna Collins, Suzanna Martinez, Mikayla Collins and Omaryi Espinal scored for the KIPP Panthers.
