In a battle of unbeatens boys? tennis squads, St. John?s Prep rose to 7-0 with a solid 4-1 home victory Wednesday over St. Mary?s, which had strung together nine wins to start the season.
After the Spartans? Brady Ryan took the first singles match, 6-2, 6-2, St. John?s won the next four points.
?We knew it would be tough going in,” said St. Mary?s coach Brian Carlson. “But we had some high hopes for today.”
Evan Maguire won the second singles match, 6-1, 6-3, and Nick Salacci took third singles, 6-3, 6-2.
The Prep kept rolling in doubles play, with Mateo Jacome and Tom Shea winning the first match, 6-3, 6-4. In the second doubles match, David Cadigan and David Cunningham won, 6-0, 6-0.
?The score doesn?t really indicate how many close matches we played today,” said St. John?s coach Mark Metropolis. “It?s always great to grab a win against those guys.”
Marblehead 5, Revere 0
The Marblehead boys (4-3) blanked Revere at home in a match that included the varsity debut of sophomore Garrett Tully, who dominated at third singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Senior captains Griffin Butterfield (6-1, 6-0) and Michael Forte (6-0, 6-2) notched wins in the first two singles matches for the Magicians.
In doubles play, the teams of Justin Faia/Felix Livtak and Luca Fiori/Jake Driscoll both won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Swampscott 4, Lynn Classical 1
The Big Blue (3-3) swept the doubles matches and then won two singles matches to grab a win at Lynn Classical (3-5).
Matt Jacobs won the first singles match for Swampscott, 6-0, 6-0. Ian Crimmins took the next match, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, the duo of Sam Mayblyum and Daniel Popovskiy won the first match, 6-1, 6-2. The team of Tyler Gateman and Matt Donaher took the second match, 6-2, 6-0.

Moses Ba grabbed the lone win for Classical, taking the third singles match, 6-2, 6-3.

The doubles team of Sara Cunningham and Juliette Albo also won 6-0, 6-0, while the duo of Michelle Schneider and Anya Peterson won their match, 6-3, 6-4.
St. Mary?s 3, Matignon 2
The Spartans (4-8) relied on strong doubles play to grab a close win. Julie Shea and Kristin Tansey won the first match 6-3, 6-0, while the Adelina Katzounos and Krysta Bertocchi won the second, 6-0, 7-6.
Mia Nikolakopoulos grabbed the singles win for the Spartans at third singles, 6-3, 6-2.
