Lynn Classical starter Ivy Martin tossed a two-hitter to lead her team to a 7-0 victory over Gloucester at Grace Rogato Field on Friday.
Martin fanned six and walked two in the shutout effort, and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate. Emma DeJoie also contributed, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
?Everything?s coming together for us,” said Classical (6-2) coach Erica Richard. “Everyone?s been contributing. We have a tough week ahead, so we hope we can keep the momentum going.”
Swampscott 8, Revere 6
In a late-inning slugfest, Swampscott (6-4) bested Revere (6-2), led by Christina King?s grand slam.
?Hats off to Swampscott,” said Revere coach Joe Ciccarello. “They made the plays and their big hitters came through.”.
The score was knotted at two in the fifth when the Patriots made a couple of errors and pitcher Sabrina Palermo hit two batters to load. That brought up King, whose blast put Swampscott ahead, and Hannah Leahy scored two more runs with a bases-loaded single.
Revere scored three times in the sixth and once in the seventh, but Swampscott held on for the win.
?We put up quality at-bats,” said Big Blue coach Frank Kowalski.
Sam Rizzo got the win, going five innings with three strikeouts.
Palermo struck out nine, but Ciccarello says that she “just wasn?t quite herself.”
?We didn?t quit, and getting those runs late was good sign,” said Ciccarello. “Some losses, in the right place, can actually be a good thing.”
St. Mary?s 12, Austin Prep 7
The Spartans (7-1) were led by Michela Hamill, who opened the bottom of the first with a home run and went 3-for-4. Hamill, who was also the starting pitcher, had a lights-out first inning, but walked five batters, as Austin Prep took a 5-1 lead. Mia Nowicki stepped in for the Spartans, pitching the remaining 5 ? innings, striking out 14 batters and allowing six hits and two runs. She also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Spartans came charging back thanks to some outstanding offensive performances. Katarina Roy (4-for-4, home run, two RBIs) and Francesca Simon (3-for-4, two RBIs) also contributed for St. Mary?s.
Winthrop 14, Lynn English 2
Shortstop Taylor Thomas (3-for-4, double, three runs) and Christine Haskel (2-for-4, four RBIs, two runs), Gabby Kenniston (home run, two walks) led the Vikings? (3-5) offense.pair of walks. Starter Maura Lanza went six innings, fanning seven.
?(English) is a young team, and they?re working through some growing pains,” said Winthrop coach David Guffey. “But we made the plays we should, and it was a good day for us.”Saugus 7, Peabody 5
The Sachems (4-5) outlasted the Tanners (3-4) as Shannon Gayron earned her first varsity victory on the mound, tossing four innings. Brooke Westmoreland took over the last three innings, earning the save.

Ashley Jenkins (3-for-4, home run) and Kayla Santos (4-for-4) led the Peabody offense. Tanners starter Shelbi Wilson was effective (three earned runs, seven hits, one walk, 12 strikeouts) but took the loss.
?It?s the timing of some of our errors that?s killing us,” said Peabody coach Butch Melanaphy.Katie Morrison may be reached at [email protected]. Follow her on Twitter @KatieMo61.
