Tennis Roundup: Classical girls rally to beat Peabody

The Lynn Classical (8-1) girls just barely came away with a win on the road in Peabody (4-6), 3-2, Friday. After dropping the first two singles? matches, the Rams battled back to grab the final match and then sweep doubles for the win.
Kayla O?Brien righted the ship for Classical with her win in third singles, 6-1, 6-2. The doubles team of Shea Dunnigan and Briana Silva won the first doubles? match (6-0, 6-1) and then Ashley Noel and Zoe Raymond sealed the team win with a victory in win in second doubles (6-3, 6-2).
?Kayla really came to play today and the doubles? teams were on point,” said Classical coach Cathy Ellis.
Peabody won the first two singles? matches, with Kayla Hodas taking the first one (6-1, 6-0) and Eleni Petromelis wining the second match (6-2, 6-4).
GIRLS? TENNIS
Lynnfield 3, Swampscott 2
The Pioneers eked out a win over Swampscott (6-2) by a slim margin to remain unbeaten on the season. Lynnfield (9-0) won just one of the singles? matches, but rebounded to take both doubles? matches.
Sarah Mezini won the first singles? match for the Pioneers (6-0, 6-2). Amanda Stelman and Rachel Maglio also won their match (6-0, 6-2). Katie Nevils and Olivia Skelley swept their match (6-0, 6-0).
?Every time we get together with Swampscott it?s a battle,” said Lynnfield coach Craig Stone. “I wouldn?t be surprised if we see them come tournament time.”
Swampscott got singles? wins from Vivien Gere in second singles (6-2, 6-3) and Veronica Pyatigorskaya in third singles (6-2, 6-2).
?It?s disappointing to drop both doubles? matches like that,” said Swampscott coach Nina Rogers. “Hopefully we see them again in the tournament and fix our mistakes.”
Bishop Fenwick 5, St. Mary?s 0
Bishop Fenwick (5-3) got wins from Kerry Kircher (first singles, 6-1, 6-4), Jaime Towns (second singles, 6-1, 6-1) and Jeena DeFrancesco (third, 6-1, 6-1).
In doubles?, Tara LaCross and Olivia Comeau won their match (6-3, 6-1). In second doubles, Nicole Russell and Sophia DiPietro won (6-4, 2-6, 6-2).
St. Mary?s is 6-10.
BOYS? TENNIS
St. Mary?s 5, Bishop Fenwick 0
The Spartans (10-1) made quick work of the Bishop Fenwick Crusaders on Friday afternoon. The Spartans dominated the match and came up with the sweep.
Brady Ryan won the first singles? match (6-0, 6-0) for the Spartans (10-1). Matt McManus and Patrick Morin-Plante both won their singles? matches, both by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles? play, Noah Camelo and Conor Foley won the first match (6-4, 6-1), and Jimoh George and Jonah Lezama won at second doubles (7-5, 6-2).
?Everyone played hard,” said Spartans? coach Brian Carlson. “This was a good win for us.”
Lynn Classical 4, Peabody 1
Lynn Classical (5-5) got a solid win over Peabody (0-8), as Calvin Cheung won the first singles? match for the Rams (6-0, 6-0). In doubles? play, David Hincape and Alex Chea won (6-2, 6-0) while Patrick Gibb and Simon Kazimierczyk were also victorious (6-1, 6-0).
