Senior ace Shelbi Wilson put the Tanners on her back, throwing a perfect game to help lift Peabody softball (4-4) to a 12-0 home victory over Triton on Saturday.
Wilson struck out eight over the five-inning game (mercy rule). It was the second perfect game of her career. The first came in a 9-0 win over Gloucester on April 28, 2014.
?It was a good win, we hit the ball well and the defense played great,” said Peabody coach Butch Melanaphy. “Obviously they didn?t have much to do because of Shelbi?s outing, but we?ll take it.”
Paige Haywood led the way on offense for the Tanners with a 3-for-4 day.
Bishop Fenwick 7, Nantucket 5
Senior catcher Gaby Hart was a catalyst on offense with a game-winning two-run double while going 2-for-3 for the Crusaders (7-3).
Natalie Medros improved to 5-2 on the mound after giving up just four hits and one unearned run in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Senior outfielders Jenny Nasser and Katie O?Brien each went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
?It was back and forth the whole game,” said Fenwick coach Paul Lyman. “Nantucket was really competitive and it?s good for our young team to get some experience.”
Concord-Carlisle 1, Beverly 0
Ally Cabral and Jackie Pia recorded the only two hits for the Panthers (4-3) in the shutout. Emily Pitman got the loss on the mound despite giving up only four hits and an unearned run.
BOYS? LACROSSE
Peabody 12, Swampscott 4
Peabody (7-6) notched an impressive win over Swampscott behind three hat tricks and some solid faceoff play from Frank Falco. Falco won 18 of 20 faceoffs and was a strong presence in the midfield all day.
Zach Billie (four goals, four assists), Bobby Caproni (four goals, one assist), and Josh Fiore (four goals, one assist) each had a hat trick for the Tanners. Reed Foster notched three assists.
Goalie Matt Cloutman was also a steady presence in net, stopping nine shots.
BASEBALL
Newburyport 3, Lynnfield 1
Nick Aslanian pitched a three-hit complete game for the Pioneers (4-6), but it wasn?t enough as Lynnfield made some mistakes in the field to give Newburyport three unearned runs.
Aslanian struck out two and walked one in the loss.
?(Nick) did a great job out there, he kept them off balance all day,” said Lynnfield coach John O?Brien. “We just made those key defensive mistakes, and they cost us.”
The Pioneers couldn?t capitalize with runners on base, stranding nine in the game. The Pioneers? lone run came on an RBI triple from Mike Stellato in the fifth inning.
