Leading by just a goal at halftime against Saugus on Tuesday at Blocksidge Field, the Swampscott boys (8-5, 8-0) dominated the second half for a 10-5 win clinching at least a share of the Northeastern Conference/South title.
Swampscott coach Todd Pierce was not happy with his team?s early play and let it be known at halftime.
?We really challenged the team at the half,” Pierce said. “And, as a group, they stepped it up in the second half and played with conviction.”
Senior captain Devin Conroy led Swampscott with three goals and three assists. Jason Dignan (two goals, assist, 13-for-13 on faceoffs) and Ryan McDermott (two goals) also contributed.
Pierce also lauded the play of Chris Myette and Will Green on defense in the second half.
Marblehead 14, Gloucester 6
The Magicians (9-4, 5-1 NEC/North) readied for Thursday?s showdown with conference leader Beverly by dominating the host Fishermen. Brooks Tyrrell (six goals, three assists) led the Marblehead offense with Manning Sears (three goals), Andy Clough (two goals), Max Orrock (goal, assist), Hillman Hollister (goal) and Danny Gieniesczko (goal).
Gloucester (4-8, 0-8) got two goals apiece from Tom Donahue, Winslow Lewis and Cormac Flickinger.
Lynnfield 7, Triton 6
The Pioneers (6-5) had to hung on for the win thanks to the netminding of Jack Ganter, who made 21 saves. Jon Knee (two goals), Jake Forgione (two goals), Pat Garrity (goal, four assists), Matt Miller (goal, two assists) and Chad Martin (game-winning goal) led the offense.
?Jack played great in net and the team played like we?re capable of doing,” Lynnfield coach Joe Papagni said.
Beverly 13, Danvers 7
The NEC/North-leading Panthers (9-4) beat the Falcons (4-3), led by Clinton Cabral (four goals, two assists) and Sam Abate (two goals, four assists). Hunter Spencer (two goals, two assists), Chris Vallette (three goals), Kyle Chouinard (goal) and John Loreti (goal) also contributed for Beverly.
Danvers was led by Troy Fleming (four goals) and Trevor Chasse (two goals, assist).
Xaverian 15, St. John?s Prep 3
The Eagles (5-9) fell as the Hawks scored eight times in the second quarter. K.J. Sarni (two goals) and Mitch Carpenter (goal) led the St. John?s offense.
