Tennis Roundup: Beverly gets back in the win column against Classical

The Beverly Panthers (3-4) snapped their four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win on the road against Lynn Classical (5-7). Beverly got singles wins? from Peter Coletti (6-1, 6-2) and Dylan LeBlanc (6-2, 6-1).
The Panthers also swept the doubles? matches. The team of Skyler Crean and Nick McPhail won the first match (6-3, 6-3) while Colin Oliver and Kyle Martin took the second match (6-2, 6-3).
?It?s just good to get back on track,” said Beverly coach Kris Melanson. “We?re still a young team and we?re continuing to work through things, so it?s nice to get the win.”
Moses Ba grabbed the only win of the day for Classical, winning third singles 6-2, 7-5.
?My guys played really hard today,” said Classical coach Chris Hayward. “But Beverly played some mistake-free tennis and had the better match today.”
BOYS? TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Winthrop 2
Despite losing both doubles? matches, Marblehead (7-4) rallied to sweep the singles? matches for the win. Dimitri Vlassov won the first match (6-3, 6-0). Griffin Butterfield swept second singles (6-0, 6-0) and Michael Forte won third singles (6-2, 6-0).
Winthrop got doubles? wins from the team of Robby Miles and Matt Sennott (7-5, 7-6) and the duo of Pat Todisco and Jake LaFratta (7-5, 7-6).
St. John?s 4, Newton North 1
The Eagles (9-1) qualified for the state tournament with a hard-fought win on the road. Evan Maguire was injured diving for a ball in the second singles? match, but hung in for the win (7-5, 6-4). Mikey Prokopis took the marathon third singles? match, which lasted over two and a half hours and needed a super tiebreaker in the third to win 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 (10-8). The team of Mateo Jacome and Nick Salacci had a battle of their own in the first doubles? match, winning 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Andrew Cadigan and David Cunningham took the second doubles match (6-4, 6-1).Arlington 4, Lynnfield 1
The first doubles? pairing of Ethan Forrest and Danny Bronshvayg got the lone win (6-3, 6-4) for the Pioneers (0-8).
GIRLS? TENNIS
Swampscott 5, Salem 0
Anna Raptunovich got things started for Swampscott (8-2) with a win in first singles (6-0, 6-1). Vivien Gere won second singles (6-0, 6-0) and Veronica Pyatigorskaya took the third singles? match (6-0, 6-1). In doubles? play, Anya Peterson returned to the lineup with her usual partner Michelle Snyder to win the first match (6-1, 6-2). The team of Juliette Albo and Sara Cunningham won second doubles, (6-1, 6-0).
Marblehead 5, Lynn Classical 0
The Magicians (8-2) notched a dominating win over Lynn Classical (9-2) on the road. Kelly Mealey and Julia Channing each won their singles? matches, 6-2, 6-0, while Megan Ryan won her singles match (6-0, 6-2). In doubles, Hannah Cohen and Meagan Hanratty won the first match (6-2, 6-3). Sammi Gilberg and Lily Frontero won second doubles (6-1, 6-1).
?The girls played good, solid tennis today across the board,” said Marblehead coach Cathy Castoldi. “They?re really coming into their own out there.”
Lynnfield 5, Hamilton-Wenham 0
Lynnfield (11-0) extended its impressive winning streak to 32 matches. Sarah Mezini and Kelley Nevils each won their singles? matches (6-1, 6-0). Izzy Figucia rounded out the singles? play with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the third match. The duo of Katie Nevils and Olivia Skelley took the first doubles? match (6-2, 6-3). Melanie Richard and Kayla Collins completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 win in second doubles.
