In recent years, Lynn Classical has been one of the few teams in the Northeastern Conference that has found success against Peabody. On Wednesday at Bezemes Diamond, the Rams continued that trend by topping the NEC/North leading Tanners, 8-5.
?This was our best offensive game of the year,” Classical coach Mike Zukowski said. “We executed all around at the plate, pitching, and in the field.”
The win also moves the Rams (8-3, 7-3) to within a game of Peabody (10-2, 8-2 NEC North) in the league standings.
Tyler Way and Herbie Newton had two hits each for the Rams. Andre Gaudet and Matt Stanley drove in two runs each while Joe Tardiff drove in one and picked up the victory in his first career start.
?Classical showed up to win, we showed up to play,” Peabody coach Mark Bettencourt said. “We played terrible but all credit to Classical. They played very well.”
Mike Petrosino had two hits and two RBIs for Peabody.
St. Mary?s 11, Williams 1
The Spartans (9-4, 7-2 Catholic Central League/Large) put it all behind Clay Yianacopolus, who struck out five in a complete game while going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and five RBIs at the plate.
?It was nice to see us play a complete game in all phases,” St. Mary?s coach Derek Dana said.
Connor Sakowich had a pair of triples and an RBI while Antonio Felix was 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Spartans, who led, 10-0, after two innings.
Marblehead 12, Winthrop 3
A four-run fourth was followed by four more runs in the fifth as the Magicians (6-5) blew open a 2-2 game.
Spencer Carr was 2-for-3 with five RBIs to lead the Marblehead attack. Drew Bisegna went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while James McCarthy was 2-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored. Garrett Keough struck out seven in a complete game effort.
Danvers 12, Swampscott 0
The Big Blue (8-3) made seven errors and were held to three hits by Danvers (8-3) ace Andrew Olszak, who also drove in four runs. Dan Lynch had a solo homer for the Falcons as they jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first.
Beverly 18, Revere 2
The Panthers (8-3, 7-3 NEC/North) closed to within a game of division leader Peabody thanks to a 22 hit-barrage. David Drinkwater had four hits and seven RBIs to lead the parade.
Sean Hanlon added four hits and two runs scored while Rocky Pisa had two hits along with three RBIs. Nick Cotraro also had two hits and drove in two for Beverly.
St. John?s 4, Xaverian 2
The Eagles (10-2, 6-0 Catholic Conference) clinched a third straight league title as Drew Farris came on with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the seventh to get a double play and groundout.Ted McNamara had a two-run single for the Eagles, while Justin Foley went six-plus innings in improving to 5-0 this season.
